Woo hoo we're officially not the worst team in all of history - now that's a relief. Wasn't looking good there for a while. Not sure if we can blame the pitch totally - some terrible shots in there.

so all out for 47.... thankfully avoided the lowest ever total and Australia's lowest ever total.. Siddle and Lyon easily looked the best batsmen out there.

South Africa need 236 to win. Will be interesting.

Never cheered each run as hard as I did those precious runs to make 26 (all time lowest), and then 36 (Aussie lowest)!!!

Have we gone back to the 1930's with uncovered wickets or something? lol

I went to bed when SA were 0-20 after 4 or 5 overs, glad i went to bed early lol, Johnson went for plenty in is first two overs.
I suppose what makes it even worse is that the last ball of the day, Hussey drops a sitter.
SA have'nt got this in the bag just yet, plenty of cricket left to go!!!

It was a bit disappointing that Australia's last wicket partnership ruined any hopes of them breaking the record for the lowest test score, but 47 all out is good enough. poke

South Africa seem to be doing better in their 2nd innings, hopefully they can keep calm and get the remaining 155 runs to win.

LOL, i went to sleep after australia got bowled out , the way it was going i thought it would be all over last night, but i think SA deserve to win, that was a really bad batting performance by us, and we cant blame it all on the pitch, should of put money on lyon to be top scorer.

Wow; I haven't been following Australia in the cricket so far but now I'm excited about the Blackcaps game against them in a few weeks.... hell, we might even be able to BEAT YOU for once!!! smile

FWIW, Looking forward to the Tour Match between Blackcaps and Australia A at the Allan Border Field on the 24-27th Nov... if anyone's keen we are getting a group together and going to hang out on the Saturday in (hopefully) the sun. Great thing about AB field is that if you can carry it, you can take it into the field... (other than alcohol of course)... I;ve even seen people carry small 2 seater couches in smile

stayed up till 1am watching the cricket, not sure if i should be sadened by such a pathetic display of batting or proud to have seen such an historic day!
either way, lets hope the wicket provides quick wickets again this evening.

South Africa got home without too much trouble. An amazing comeback from the position they were in after being bowled out for 96 and facing a huge first innings deficit.

It's lucky they avoided the follow on or we could have seen a 2 day Australian victory.

As I've said, it's a shame this isn't a 5 match series as it could have been a very memorable one.

Any test match where over 20 wickets fall for about 100 runs and in less than a day's play has something funny going on.

Not making excuses for Australia but it's almost as if the batsmen got a bit of a fright when they saw how dramatically South Africa capitulated, (remembering that they lost their last 9 wickets for about 50 runs as well) and therefore panicked in their next innings believing there was something over the top about the pitch and general conditions when in actual fact there wasn't really.

South Africa's pace attack is formidable, especially in their home conditions which probably enhanced the panic amongst the Australian batsmen. It's a pity to see a team that was once so mentally tough capitulate to psychological demons which is what I am seeing happening to Australia. If it wasn't for Clarke and Watson we'd be in a heap of trouble. Other than Harris, the pace bowlers aren't really setting the world on fire either when they all have the talent to do so. Mitchell Johnson has completely lost it and is a liability to the side now.

Looks like they've scrapped the planned world test championship that was scheduled for England in 2013. That's probably a good thing, since England have got a test series against NZ, the Champions Trophy and the Ashes to fit in that summer.

The only downside means no test matches held at Edgbaston in 2013 and 2014.

I like the idea of the world test championship, it wouldn't be a long and drawn out tournament like the world Cup was and would only require 3 matches.

A great last 2 sessions by Australia... the last 6 wickets for 25 in the SAF innnings, and now Aus are 0/112. Hughes just passed a fairly quick half century while Watson also just now has reached 53.

A good start... Australia could be making a statement here...

Why Clarke dropped himself from 4 to 5 has got me beat. Prefer Usi at 3, Clarke at 4, Huss at 5 & Punter at 6. This means we can look for a batting all-rounder to replace Punter this summer.

Watson fragile body is showing signs that the end may come quicker than one hoped so we need to find another one of his style.

Great to see Hughes finally make a decent score in test match conditions. Watson also made 88 runs after a string of poor innings. I wouldn't worry too much about Watson, he only has a hamstring niggle which is what happens when you play so much cricket over the course of a year, particularly when you are a genuine all rounder, an opening batsmen who is also required for full time bowling duties.

First innings points to Australia (if it were a shield match), so it looks like South Africa's batting collapse was a slightly bigger statement in the end.
