You're right Steve. Yes that's odd, 2 very different track maps.

http://www.meteo.gov.vu/TropicalCyclones/TCTrackMap/tabid/173/Default.aspx

Where are they getting their info?

Ah perhaps it's changed it's path. The Fiji track map was issued earlier today

The Vanuatu Met track map has been issued tonight.

Either way... I'm holding my breath for the people of Fiji, including my future wife and her family... before she went offline about 30 minutes ago she said it was pouring hard in Suva, she has every reason to feel frightened, and so do I... I'm fearful for her safety frown

I've been looking at our BoM and they have it all going SE. I doubt Fiji will get a cyclone but will get alot more rain to come.

They are NOT going by two different models. The reality is that this system is passing west of Port Vila. It will continue going SE into never never land. Some incidental rain may occur in Fiji due to the breadth of the system, but it will be minor in comparison caused by recent events (having said that minor on major can cause problems), and will pass relatively quickly.
And before we get overexcited... it is a minor, minor system strength wise.... nobody really has anything to worry about if they remain sensible.
It does not help when people express unnecessary fear on line.

this will end up being part of a complex low pressure system just to the north of Nz for most of the week

what I cant understand is why CIMSS and RAMMB are not watching it?

Plus, the Vanuatu track map doesnt match the coordinates they give in their table? They have it curving directly south at 20.00 2/4 but after that on their table they have it still pushing south east??

Cant find a track map from Fiji met anywhere either??

Hey TC... they broke for dinner... but seriously after the 4pm issuance, it was obvious Fiji was going to be unaffected... they simply didn't remove the media release (Fiji Govt of course has no control over the masses).

Still though, its in their AOR, doesnt matter if it directly effects them or not. Its their responsibility as apart of the tropical cyclone forecasting community.
