That's all well and good for Townsville being covered by Bowen as well but what about Ingham? It was good last few weeks with rain every time I saw it but still very on and off, it can been seen by Bowen but still, I'd love to know the other places for the radar too..

Mick I will carry the tripod with the lure attached to it wink
Did I mention I don't drink but would bring a carton of alcohol for others, lol bribery.... laugh
Seriously, with Willis Island I've forgotten,is part of the island out of bound to public or just the building ? It's such a small island...

well i would have thought that cape pallarenda would have been thought of aswell. but that site is probably too low and also would still cause problems to the west.

Would I be guessing that the climate report for summer that was on the courier mail site also pertains to us up here? or is there a separate one for us

Was actually just reading this report http://www.couriermail.com.au/news/featu...f-1225939565460 and have had a second look at it and realised that this is for last year. I am wondering how they had so much devastation with flooding if this was what was being said in October.

Yes but thats where the airport radar is situated Mick. Might need a 1000ft tower or something to elevate it high enough to see anything. Can't see that happening anytime soon. Maybe on top of the hills on Magnetic Island could also have been considered but again you would have masking issues but it would give a fairly good picture out to sea, north and south but western coverage would be woefull.

Cape Palleranda no way. Already main RAAF ATC airport approach radar there. Plus it is only 700 feet high, would be blocked in many directions. I was not told what the first 2 choices were..

Rainfall outlook for 25 October 2011:

26 October 2010:

Seems to me that the outlook issued today is VERY simular to the one issued in October 2007:

In the 2007/08 season Townsville received 760mm of rainfall from October to the end of January, 267.3mm above average. In comparison, the same period from October 2010 to the end of January 2011, Townsville's rainfall was 329.9mm above average.

So just because our odds of above average rainfall aren't as good as last year, it doesn't mean we won't have a ripper of a season ahead.

also note that the chances of exceding the median rainfall is about 10% less than the outlook issued a month ago.
with all the talk about sudden increases in sst's etc, building la nina and the like, its weird our chances are reduced.
but i agree with what RD said, this is just 'the chance of'. only takes one or two lows close to the coast for our average to be blown out of the water.

SBT seasonal forecast:

Hot and Wet.

Cyclones? Could have none, could have 5 or 6. Nobody knows but if I could choose a couple of Cat 2's during daylight just to make the summer a bit more interesting would be OK with me. Another 750mm of rainage would be nice too.

meh, every year is the same anyway.
SBT, I would LOVE a cyclone from go to whoa during the day for once.
A two is perfect, windy enough to make great viewing with minimal damage.

Strong ridging = La Nina = westward moving tropical cyclones = Fun for Trav and Nitso come January/feb/Mar. So stop cursing the ridging!!!!

Meh what happened? went to post a reply and database error message. Somebody forget to feed teh squirrels runing the power supply? grin

No chance of snow, rain, cyclone, hurricane, hail of random falls of frogs, fishes or anything else today by the looks of it.

Bloody AGW - where is my weekly cyclones, flood events, sea level rises? Not a zot. Bored, bored, bored.

Kinda enjoying seeing the sun again to be honest, not as much as I'd love a good storm.

Hopefully Uni in Brisbane next year feeds my appetite!
