Nice storms building SW of Pt Lincoln. I'm amazed that I can see frequent flashes down on my SW horizon from it. Must be high based for sure.

I'm issuing an Unstable pot and garden plant alert for SA today - pot plants and delicate garden plants can easily be destroyed on a hot windy day if not well-watered (and protected if there is the means to do it), and this is forecast to be such a day.

I don't have time to find the location of those storms you could see the lightning from WM but Port Lincoln is approx 245 km from Whyalla according to the BOM radar coordinate and distance display, so those storms would be over 245 km distant smile

Hope you have a good time Marcus smile

southerlies following changes lately and i expect this one to be no different sure pack a punch but it does cool thing down quickly.
doubt we will harvest much past 10 am we have a kestral meter and sliding scale of safe and unsafe conditions and adhere to it and most farmers do.Around here a bit of radio chatter about conditions and as soon as one stops usually us then everyone follows suit.

Thanks for the warning unstable! Will go out and give the plants a nice drink this morning.

Quote:
Friday - Sunny morning. Isolated showers and a possible thunderstorm developing during the afternoon.

Should have enough instability for at least some showers and storms, potentially more than that? My crystal ball is telling me things will be really scattered and short lived (around Adelaide)

Have fun Marcus. schoolies can be fun...stay away from the angry drunk people, turn off your mind relax and float down stream and go chase some rabbits or something smile

Winds already gusting to 30km/h here and it's 34ºC.

To ALL the farmers out there, put your equipment away... one day of no harvest won't kill you, or anyone else for that matter.

Stay safe people. smile

After checking out models, I don't like our chances of seeing much in the way of storms till quite a bit later today... possibly even after dark (which doesn't bother me!!)

How do you guys rate the WRF model? Seems like it always puts LI stronger than GFS. At +18 GFS is at -2 and WRF is -4 ? http://www.weatherzone.com.au/models/sounding.jsp?lt=twcid&lc=9399&mt=wrf&mh=18&focus=mh

After dark suits me fine smile just wouldn't mind a bit of relief from this heat.

Chris - In the very short term, within 24 hours I like it, as it updates more regularly and its at 3 hourly intervals... and seems to pick up a few things that the others miss...
It's one of the reasons why I think we wont see much here in the way of storms till after dark....

That is rather thick scrub between Whitings Road and Chapel Hill Road.... frown
There would be at least a couple of homes in immediate danger there on Whitings road...

Full warning:
CFS advises that a bushfire at Blewitt Springs in the Mt lofty Ranges near Whitings Rd may threaten your safety.

The BLEWITT SPRINGS fire is travelling in a South Easterly direction towards Whitings Rd.

The uncontrolled fire is burning in Scrub.

Put your bushfire survival plan into action. If your plan is to leave or you are not prepared, leave now.

Only leave if the path is clear to a safe place.

I can't see smoke yet. Will go to the top of the hill to have a wider view soon. Couldn't be a much worse day. Today is the threshold day when the temp reaches 30 and the wind howls. Its all downhill into summer now and won't pick up till autumn next year.

yer would be good to make her aware, although winds would have to change almost directly from the north for the township itself to be affected.... its more heading towards Woodstock, Maglieri's, and the Douglas Gully campsite area... One would hope though that its contained before then though....
