Checking out photos back to page 20 smile
Beautiful evening shot of cg there Azza! Such a good time to photo lightning.
Rick - great shots those last two - looks rather Christmassy smile
You did well Chris - also getting into the Christmas spirit with the foreground lights smile Interesting about the foxes - didn't know they were down there - perhaps they live along the Torrens.
Glad you got among the action Hillsrain with some corker pics as reward for your sleep-deprived night smile
Feast of branchy cgs and delicate tracery there TE - well done!
I like both of yours Max - hope you enjoyed the company too - good to hear so many members were out and about.
More good photos Azza and as you often do - plenty of variety in your pics.
Very interesting technique Chris - seems the cgs aren't taking random paths - to my eye there's a tendency to follow similar paths. And great last pic to end the show.
What was I doing on the night? Asleep poke

great pics everyone, looks like we were a little treated with this one, but would have been nice to have it a little more frequent, and a bit closer to home... I'll take anything though, right now... Got a couple of shots from that morning, went out during the day before also and was treated to a few high based CG's, unfortunately didn't pick them up on the Camera.

Taken at Sandleton.

A couple of onlookers, wondering what I am doing... Storms Produced a couple of good CG's during it's life cycle.

The storm must have been holding onto this one for a while. Unfortunately blown out, because I still had the camera set for the bolts further away....

Taken in the early hours, longish exposure to capture these three together.

I score a photo on these principals,
1 - Colours
2 - Clarity
3 - Scenery
4 - Visualising presence

The contrast in colours through the clouds then back down across the ocean, it's mind blowing to say the least... The way you have captured the scenery ie, beach, waves crashing, bluff, ocean, clouds, sunset, then the lightning is the icing on the cake... Visualising presence, everytime I look at the photo I feel like I'm there, what a wonderful feeling.

You can go through all the fantastic photo's in this thread scan them up & down but always come back to this one...

Aaron, this is calender material & if it's not in the 2013 WZ edition I'd protest, top stuff mate!

Yeah congrats to all on the excellent shots! A whole 0.2mm for me, from yesterdays drivel! Have had three times that much in this mornings drizzle patch that seems to be hanging around the NE burbs 0.6mm so far, its a flood compared to yesterday! grin

I agree SD. I don't know why, but I love seeing the reflection of lightning, particularly on the surface of the ocean.

I also agree SD, its the pick of the pics IMO. West coast score 1!
2.25mm here, 0.25 from drizzle yesterday, sunny and cool this morning with a blue sky full of moisture not dust.

Lennie you reckon it may have been a positive bolt I saw and HEARD and your description of the thunder is exactly as it was. An earthquake in the sky. It was about 15km in a straight line from me.
All the lightning from that evening happened in the same places it always does. Its occurrence is random, but around here where it bangs down isn't really.

Amazing difference today. Was 6 degrees this morning, 2 days ago it was 21 degrees. Ah our fickle desert......

Kalangadoo was pretty much smack bang right in the middle of that storm which came through Friday evening so there wasnt much reason to chase it even though that would have been quite tempting

Well, here are dcon and myself in Coonamble at the moment, and I am astounded that our trip so far (and anything in the recent future) has/likely to produce/d the best viewing inside our own border! Unfortunately, for Dave, it was me who got this one. Although full credit goes to him for the inspiration behind the foreground:

Well it looks like I bombed out again. That BLOODY FORCEFIELD at work 'again' - not like the good old days. Great shots those who managed them, yes Aztech's strike over the sea was a doozey and Astro's third one was all over the place, a knock out, well done every one - must not forget Max of course grin

Many happy returns Chris #3 cheers

John.

aztech, astro and max...what can I say. Mindblowing, some of the best lightnings pics I've seen in these forums smile

I think my favourite lightning shots often are ones that are decent landscape shots in their own right, sometimes with something in foreground, nice colours, showing some of the cloud clearly and of course the bolt. A little bit bored of the cropped branchy CG lightning showing nothing else...love the crawling CC's though.

Cheers btwc! Can't quite believe I'm 25 smile Birthdays seem to get less exciting every year poke

Well done everyone!! Great results considering this wasnt really the greatest system, it looked good but only produced in a couple of locations and was sporadic elsewhere, also wind and moist air accompanied it a lot making it harder to photograph.

I only just got back from Andamooka yesterday, havent had net access up until now. What I wouldnt have given to have been in Marree on Sat night!! They must have had some cracker stuff! I got some more pics in Anda but nothing great storms were too far away (5-20km). Got one pretty creative shot though that I'm pretty proud of, along the lines of thorpey's ute one.

Many thanks to those who commented on my pics (US, TS, TT, HS, Az, WM and buggerthatwasclose [buggerthatsalongname!] and anyone else who I may have missed.

ALSO IS ANYONE ELSE THINKING THIS SEASON LOOKS A LOT LIKE 97/98? IM GOING ON CLOUD FORMATIONS / SEA TEMPS / SOLAR CYCLE / WEAK LA NINA. 97, 98 WAS MY BEST LIGHTNING PHOTOGRAPHY (BUT NOT ALL ROUND BEST) SEASON EVER!! (COMMENTS PLS -EVEN IF THEY GO IN DAY 2 DAY THREAD, ID BE INTERESTED IN PEOPLES THOUGHTS.)

thank you guys for the awesome feedback! and for the inspiring photography that everyone else brings to this forum, its the reason I keep coming back here! mother nature really turned it on! I really wish I could have last Friday again, the sun was setting through a gap straight underneath that line of storms with bolts connecting to the ocean straight in front and to the side of the sun! Ive never seen that before and it will probably be many years till the right ingredients come together like that again, I think pointing my camera into the sun blinded my lightning trigger???? anyway it was behaving strangely while it was pointing into the sun, has anyone got a radio lightning trigger?

I hope it wasn't Channel 7 poke I am not sure what their email is so I didn't send it. It was Channel 10 who used my photograph. I wish I could see it on the big screen... but it looked pretty good on the old CRT.

Thanks everyone for your comments. Great to see the SAliens backing one another on their images, and some Ex SAliens also (yes you know who you are)
