Just briefly, chance of convective storms east of the ranges this afternoon & evening. (currently one striking in no-man's land).

Storms increasing to the west of us, reaching KI late, and possibly us during the early hours of the morning....

Areas of showers and embedded storms increasing from the south tomorrow. Better chance of storms on the northern edge later in the day.... Showers tending to rain in the south.
Clearing to showers and isolated storms on Saturday...

Will be a fast moving system too, so will probably come and go in the avo before you know it. Best bet for chasing this system will be pre-frontal convergence.

Yer to clarify, the storm activity worthwhile chasing within the Adelaide districts that is;) My bet is that storms will more likely on sat be out further east, so a bit of a drive for those interested.

hrmmm.... yes on Saturday storms will contract north and east quickly during the day, but should see showers hanging around...

Ok, so looking better chance overnight for us now for some nocturnal cooling storms... Should see fair bit of Accas buildup on sunset even and into the night. Will be interesting to see where and how many storms do form from this as the night progresses.... best chance for sure is EP....
Friday afternoon and evening is looking GREAT! Good chance for Adelaide itself to get something, and then for those chasing, the evening is looking encouraging for some decent night time stuff possibly for the city itself... but definitely to our immediate north and east...

Keep an eye on a few convective cells starting to develop on central EP too... these could impact on Whyalla and the Upper Mid north possibly before sunset... Also a couple of nice cells in the Riverland atm...

I have already post in day to day forecast page but I have no choice to post it here, sorry to bother you all. It is part of safety and well being.

I have to remind you it is not safe to venture out and drive to chase storms in Adelaide Hills tomorrow due to severe fire danger mixed with fresh gusty northerlies and dry air with dry thunderstorms causing significant fire danger to the dry grass field and bush. There is chance there will definitely be a local bushfire or grass fire start from lightning strikes. Take care people and drive safely and have fun.

Hmm Im not so confident for storms later tonight early tomorrow. Most out west are moving north and instability on GFS indicates not much to work with only hope is nocturnal cooling, the low is a long way to the west so that could be the reason why action will stay west tonight. Tomorrow Im not sure either, will be mostly dry storms north of Adelaide we shall see. Yep not feeling it atm must be bad day at work lol.

Millions and millions of flying ants around tonight... managed to dig up this -

Legend says that when flying ants swarm, a thunderstorm is approaching.

http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/news/article-12239637-flying-ants---fact-file.do

They use the weather as a signal. It has to be just right, warm and not too windy and it is often just before a thunderstorm. When the conditions are right all of the flying ants from miles around will take flight filling the sky with a giant swarm.

http://www.avonwildlifetrust.org.uk/news_archive_2011.htm#ants

Quote:
Typically the virgin queens and males first scatter to ensure outcrossing. The queens then release pheromones to attract males. However, the queens often try to escape the males, allowing only the fastest and the fittest males to mate. Mating takes place during flight.

The males are built for the only purpose of inseminating the queen, and can't even feed themselves for the few days of their lives.[3] During "the quick and violent mating, the male literally explodes his internal genitalia into the genital chamber of the queen and quickly dies."[3][4]

Going by the longer-term projections, tomorrow’s and Saturday’s rain (18th-19th) has been some time in the making (a good week). There could be a reasonable fall in the temperature and some runoff with more intense rain/showers. The pressure is already dropping (now 998 hPa); expecting quite a large increase in the humidity over the next couple of days as well.

Yer doesn't look like much chance overnight now.... was expecting a little bit more buildup of Accas to the west...
Should however see showers and storms gradually build to the south through the early morning, possibly impacting the Fleurieu before sunrise...

well I went outside to water the garden and there were spiders webs everywhere, I walked into two of them - an experience I could do with out - and saw heaps more. if its a reliable weather indicator it means that there may be one or two big rains in the next month, last year we had spiders webs galore in late November and mid January...before the epic events: 100 mm sometime in February and of course December the 7th...

Hoping to see some build up of medium to high cloud before sunrise as well. Im thinking it could be a very spectacular sunrise, I may even head down south to capture it and have a look at some of the beaches I have never seen...like Aldinga and Carackalinga....it would be awesome to see a few sparks thrown in for good measure as well!

I wish someone would write some code, that I could enter my location, and then if lightning struck within a certain amount of km, it would trigger an alarm which would wake me up. I must investigate how these lighting tracker things are coded...it couldnt be that hard.

Maybe Chris's flying ants combined with your spiders dcon are letting us know we might be in for something! smile

Yeah it might be an interesting morning coming up. Might try to beat the sun up. If you can invent that lightning trigger alarm dcon I'll buy one off ya! smile

Supposed to be going to Adelaide tomorrow, but if the storms are coming in earlier then it'll be best I stay home. Whilst I love the storms this time of year, I hate the havoc the lightning can reek on tinder dry grasses and crops. Could be a scary day tomorrow, especially with strong gusty winds forecast. frown
