Gee fellas keep the goodies coming! a event like this has been on the cards for so long and dealt out nicely to those that scored a royal flush smile

Greg i must comend you on how you handled the doomsday, naysay, knobjockey keyboard warriors. Yes, come look at my RAW shots, then skin there hides,.. lock them in a cupboard for the next rainy day and send them out in the middle of a field with a copper coated kite, fishing rod or anything else conductive...get the shot of the century then show then how you can photoshop them out of the composition just so its better on the general publics eyes.. ohh then send the raws to me! bwahaha...

now comon the next round of stormys! im happy with what i was dealt in my area, and much more happy that others in other locals scored better..mother nature shares her beauty to all, when its our time its our time..as that is seen all to often in the seq thread wah bom this wah bom that patience is virtue! I myself have my fair share of what i see as great shots, pathetic compared to luck of others.. my gear is slowly increasing in quality as is my knowledge in both weather in photography.. my time will come as gregs and a few others has in recent times.. i'll bag my pride wall hanger,. up until then im to dumb to find a photoshop let alone do it myself at home to its usually click the pic on site, composition i need to work on, slap it on the pc, upload and share directly unedited and VERY rarely i may tweak it if i can be bothered or figure it out to show what my eyes seen over what the camera picked up. i like my photography like my women alnatural...

yer, something like that would be sufficient for science purposes i suppose;)

I guess this system can now be closed, done and dusted, unless anyone else has anything to add?

I can add this!

Chased the Nyngan-Parkes region supercells with John Allen on Tues and despite a late initiation that was concerning, the atmosphere got its act together in our target area and went beserk! We intercepted several structured supercells, observed rotating wallclouds, funnels, extremely strong RFD many times, raised dust whirls lifted by RFD and masses of hail to 7cm. A nighttime intercept near Forbes netted a supercell with liberty bell structure and significant wall cloud followed by brilliant lightning. I havent processed my pics or stitched panos yet except for these monumental wide angle crawlers taken near Parkes. The shots are at 10mm and the big one went well and truly over and behind us to give you an idea of just how epic this bolt was. John captured it with his 14mm wide on a full frame and it's fair to say the locals could probably hear us from 10km away as we celebrated!

The frequency of the lightning was something else! (Not hard for someone who chased for the first time outside of SA) poke This below is the same view; 38 second exposure saw about 9 CGs, plus countless other flashes from inside it:

Another cell went through Forbes later, and I took this from the verandah of the motel we were staying at:

Have a number of things on my plate, but managed to get a chance to produce a pano of the supercell in its early stages SE of Nyngan on the road heading towards Tullamore. May follow with more if I can ever get a break from an ever increasing list of jobs.

Nice John, good catch. Excuse my ageing eyes, but what is that red thing in the left hand bottom corner?

Watermark, nothing to worry about missing wink. Oh and at first I thought you meant Brad in the bottom right corner poke.

Hey Greg,
I was on the summit of Ainslie at pretty much the same time as you - only managed one shot of a strike with an iphone, but I was chuffed to get that at least.

I have been back on the Riot Act, as I was an old member a while back - in fact, that is where I met Ant, who suggested that this site and forums might be of interest to me. to read the naysayers there was a big surprise, gungahlin al and I were sending tweets to each other as the storm approached, as was Darren giles - Gungahlin Weather site admin.

Anyway, I felt that another comment wouldn't hurt, so i posted:

re Greg’s images, i was on the summit of Mt Ainslie watching the fronts come in at the same time that he was. There were several photographers armed with tripods, and they were only too happy to show the results of their patience. One guy was getting shots like Greg has captured over and over – he had a prime position, looking out over Gungahlin, and his labors were well worth it. I got one measly strike photo with the iPhone, but it was worth it to be there to watch the storm coming in.

The next time there is an event like this, come on up to mount Ainslie, but only if you feel comfortable in doing so. It is magical when the cells come over Canberra, the lightning shows are spectacular, but we kept an eye on the distance the storm was from us, and bailed when it was too close for comfort."

I am not posting my strike shot - in comparison to the images on here, it makes me feel like a bit of a noob...

Finally back on the forum after some health issues and a belated congrats to Greg on the images from Burley Griffin. Those pics did so much to raise the interest level amongst non weather geeks in the wider Canberra Community with people who take no interest in weather asking me "how did he get them" etc. I think you single handedly boosted the potential participants in our weather 'hobby' by several hundred people just in Canberra alone. Congrats again.
