What looked like the storm of the year for us that could not possibly miss us took a dive south at the last second and missed us. Hope what's coming behind it doesn't do the same.

radar shows it losing intensity and splitting/spreading to follow higher ground (fairly common event) around us. We will get wet for sure but heaviest bits will prob stick to higher rim around us.

Duane - that sounds a similar story to what usually happens here.

Getting very dark here now - just heard first deep rumbles.

The strong breeze and low cloud should save us from any storms on the coast so we don't have much to worry about here. Perhaps tomorrow is a different story, but then we have the cloud from the west.

We have a direct hit. Hail, wind and the heaviest rain I have seen in a long time. There must have been a stike close by as I felt a shock go up my legs to my head at the same time lights and computers went off but are back on. May be stuck at work as I can see the intersection at the end of the street going under and it is the only way out.
Duane.

Hello everybody. I dont normally ask for this kind of outright help but I am hoping one of the more experienced Met Heads could Confirm my Forecast. I am hoping for a good Nocturnal Electrical event for Areas within 100km of Finley NSW for around 2 or 3am local time. I use GFS Mainly for lift, cape, RH, DP, shear etc.

Looking at these two Skew-T's. the first for 11PM Tuesday, the next for 2Am Wed. The 11pm shows Nudda, but by 2Am GFS suggests the trough will backtrack a little before resuming its North Eastward Journey.

They way I am viewing this is that it looks like Areas immediately surrounding Finley could get some Dry lightning. Is this possible? Can anyone Confirm this? I cam see that there is some rain to The Easy and north East. But Just West of the rain looks lie there could be some intense Nocturnal Electrical Activity. I am hoping that One of the experienced Met Heads in here can check out the charts a let me / Us know what you think? Please? Thank you! wink

Here are the two Skew-T's, is it just me or does the 2Am local time (15zulu) look Awesome?

11PM (12z)Skew-T for Finley NSW from 00z GFS

2am (15Z) Skew-T for finley NSW from 00z GFS

Just came from a month stay at Gold Coast, hoping for some decent storms but instead I get one of the driest Novembers in the region, I've been back for less than an hour and Canberra's turned it on with some hard rain and some flashes, rolling thunder. A great way to return lol

I was supposed to be going up to Canberra this weekend for a conference, that ain't happening because I'm recovering from glandular fever poke just as well, the weather forecast in the Capital for the weekend and early part of next week looks pretty boring so I won't be missing out on anything exciting weatherwise (different story at the same time last year when I had spectacular thunderstorms on December 4 and again on December 8) smile

Nonetheless, a pity I'm not in Canberra right now... those storms in NSW/ACT sure look mean! smile

Yes, still storming out with rain and thunder - rainfall was intense, the hail was roughly around the same size, it was small but man did it hurt when it came down.

It was all black earlier this afternoon as the storm came over, the skies were amazing in color or the intensity of the black just set the mood. The first set that came through were nothing bad just cloud to ground lightning as well as thunder and rain.

Then the second set was the worst for us, hail, heavy rain, lightning, thunder, wind.

We have had around 3 storms so far here in Queanbeyan today, what a great day.

We are getting smashed! and I didn't see it coming, I was at the BBQ place in Fyshwick getting gas around 4pm and saw some goodish clouds, but nothing stormish. An hour later, crash boom whoosh. As I was driving across Dairy Flat, with strings of lightning playing around the sky, I hoped that Greg S was getting some of this!

It's still going, I'm at home now and lightning is flickering everywhere, the valley where Defence HQ Joc is got soem big fat strikes.

I wish I hadn't left the west-facing window in my bedroom open.

I'm soaked, there was a little Maltese dog running around on the King's Highway between the Ridgeway and Captain's flat road, I stopped to grab it, and then 3 other cars did, we got drenched but we got the dog! All dirty and scruffy and scared... dumped probably. It will have a warm bed and a meal tongiht.
