to end the discussion.....Cat 5 is the limit because it measures how much structural damage the storm can deal.
beyond a category 5 structural damage is severe, it can't get any worse because houses are no longer standing it can't get any worse!
anyway.....when is AUS gonna spit out its own cyclone this season? usually we have had one form by now...we shredded the tourist from the indian ocean

I actually don't think there should be a cat six but on the other hand I also thinnk it is possible for more destruction to take place. ie. Complete. Nothing standing. And to be honest this is not something we have seen. Even in the middle of Yasis path there were still plenty of houses standing with roofs.

Cyclone scales are a bit like the whitewater scales they use for rivers. Grade 1 - 5 rapids. They do have a grade 6 but it means certain death (big waterfalls onto rocks). I guess if there was a Cat 6 for cyclones it may have to include certain death as a consequence of going through it. I guess if you were sitting a big cyclone out for example Typhoon Tip (the worlds strongest system) Unless you were in a absolute impenetrable shelter certain death would be a realistic consequence. Maybe they just dont happen enough but with changing global weather patterns who knows Typhoon Tips could become a more regular occurance and then the system may be upgraded to include CAT 6 - certain death. But for now CAT 5 will do.

I remember when the BOM put a category 6 label on Severe tropical Cyclone Monica in April 2006, but it was just a typo, but i remember the forums went nuts.

I took a screen dump of it. Dunno where it is now tho. Still feels like we will be waiting til the next active phase of the MJO before we see something decent pop up.

Upper level windshear starts to abate in the Coral Sea in the coming week. With the MJO just about to enter the pacific (albeit very weak) I wonder if this will trigger some action. None of the major model ensembles seem to be forecasting anything yet.

Latest modelling I have seen suggest MJO died in Phase 5. She's all gone. New one will spark up in a couple of weeks near Africa.
Disturbance has a chance to develop just east of 160, might cross/might not but won't further develop into a TC and will not approach Qld coast.

Yesterdays Trop Note carried a little more optomisim. http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/tropnote/tropnote.shtmlMJO influencing Australia's weather Over the past week, a moderately strong Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) has moved into the Australian region, and as a response, conditions are getting wetter. The majority of climate models surveyed by the Bureau of Meteorology suggest that this MJO event will linger in Australian longitudes for the next week or two, but weaken in strength during this period. The current MJO event spawned the first tropical cyclone for the Australian cyclone season, Severe Tropical Cyclone Alenga, which formed in the Indian Ocean last week. The risk of tropical cyclone formation in the Australian region is likely to remain above average for most of December, with increased rainfall across northern Australia during this period. There are early indications of the monsoon trough developing in the southern hemisphere, and as is typical for La Niņa years, it is likely that the Top End will come under the influence of the monsoon before Christmas.

Yeah It's is a bit of fun it's some things to do in my free time.
I have been useing Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 and the old one Adobe Photoshop Cs7.0 does the job well done.
Well the next 24/48 hours I say we might see some good Tropical Cyclone development any way. A very good %50 to %50 chance.

I am very happy any way to see an another cat 1 Tropical Cyclone or an cat 2 Tropical Cyclone in the Queensland coral sea any way if it's happen or not during the 2011/2012 Tropical Cyclone season for the Queensland coral sea or an Tropical Cyclone only about 995hpa.
We got to see only a little bit of action out there.
I like to know who is with me on that one or not?
