I thought a thread was in order for listing/discussing places in which you may send in your weather photos such as news/weather bulletins, Calendars, Competitions etc... to get your photos out there being enjoyed by the community. I have always been discouraged to send in photos/videos to local news stations due to assuming you would forfeit your copyrights allowing the company to use and redistribute as they choose. I would like know what are other peoples thoughts, opinions and links/emails.

Hi. You can send them in to Channel 9 and get a credit at the bottom of the screen.
We don't distribute the photos anywhere else.
We love to show weather pics on-air so the public get a good idea of what's going on around the country, and great weather pics look awesome on big tv screens.

Hi anomaly are you a representative of channel 9? If so do you accept photos that have a nice tidy watermark in the bottom corner.. this would be the only way that id be happy to release my weather snaps and video footage. Meaning I would retain full copyrights to the media.

Anomaly, just wondering what format ch 9 prefer for video too? I assume a direct link emailed to a hosted avi file would be best, 1080 resolution?

Yes, I work at Channel 9. I would be happy to run a photograph with a watermark on it, although bottom right is normally where the Channel 9 logo is, but we can add the photographer's name at the bottom in the middle.

Thank you for the quick reply nice to know id probably watermark the bottom left hand side or top then, you will see more of my photos and video submitted in future if that is the case. As long as im not asked to sign any terms to forfeit my copyrights.

You never lose copyright of your images. We just like to show the public the various weather around the country, especially on a day like yesterday. When it was snowing in Victoria it was hard to imagine it being 41 degrees in Queensland.

Hi. Our engineering department say SD video 720x576 as AVI or MOV file is best.
Cheers.
