Need a favour please. Are there charts somewhere that have recorded the barometric pressure daily from the last 6 months anywhere? Going back and wanting the data to make notes in the fishing log wink The fish were going off on Saturday and fishing was the best its been in donkeys years on Saturday so kind of testing the theory of getting heaps of bites when barometric pressure is higher and rising smile

Boring dry weather. Sigh. I'm trying to be anything but gloomy but it is pretty hard to get excited about the ongoing fine spell.

Distract yourself from thinking about it lol I'm going through my whole house today and if something hasn't been used for 12 months then its going out and not coming back in. We moved in here the week after Yasi, and I still have boxes that havent been opened so they are not going to get opened. In the back of the ute they go and gone.

Currently 31C 51% RH Barometer 1012.6 and rising

Morning all.

Hope you all started the new year off with a great day......except there was no weather to speak of !

Hot days and cool evenings. Very October like.

Just re stained my decks.....all 210sqm of them. SH#T of a job. Told my loving wife it will be bare cement next house !I can't move today, poor old thing.

I have to install my weather station. Does anybody know if placing it on the apex of my shed roof will distort the temperature readings....because of increased heat I would imagine. Would I be better off standing it alone somewhere else in the yard ?

It is a nightmare setting up a weather station. Every where you place it will be a compromise.

It depends a great deal on the instruments slipperyfish. If they are clustered together on a single pole then you may be able to put it on top of a roof but the temprature readings could be way off the scale because of reflected heat. If they can be seperated then that is best.

Rain gauge clear of obstructions in open and above ground level. (Mine are both mounted on fence posts) at 4 times the height difference. i.e. 4 metre high house then it should be 16 metres away etc.

Anonometer, above obstructions about 10 metres above ground level.

Temprature/hydrometer/barometer ideally in some sort of Stevenson Screen If not mounted in shade some where where it wion't be artifically heated. i.e. not over the top of an aircon exhaust.

My situation:
I am surrounded by mango trees which are 3 to 5 metres higher than my anonometer so I never give wind direction or speeds when I do my observations, but my rain gauges (Nylex and tipping bucket) are in reasonably good postions (9 metrers away from house and next doors trees and house) as is my temprature/hydro/barometer. These are mounted on a stand off 30cm off the side wall of the south side of my house and are in permanent shade with good airflow around them. Again I have two sensors from two different weather stations seperated by 6 metres from each other and both read within 0.2C of each other.

In the end it is all trial and error.

Try placing it in different areas around you house until you come up with what look like decent readings. Use this Charters Towers BoM Observations as a guide. By rights you should be within a couple of degrees of their tempratures.

Welcome to the mania of home weather stations. grin

Thanks heaps SBT. I have plenty of room as I am on Acres. Unfortunately it is some hundred odd meters down the back. It is all on a single mount so I may have to think outside the square a little on this. Perhaps I could put a riser above the shed some 3 - 4 m. Anyway some pondering I will do.

Again thanks heaps as I really have no idea.

Your welcome slipperyfish. Happy to help where I can.

Just got my dailiy email weather forecast from WZ for the next week. They are going to get sick and tired of cutting and pasting "Mostly sunny, 24 to 32C" for the next 3 weeks or so.
Sigh - Australian version of groundhog Day.

Didn,t get anymore in the gauge overnight, 1.5mm from that heavy downpour out here yesterday. Total 5mm for the year so far, better than nil I suppose and just holding the gardens and grass.\
Looks pretty bad rain wise for the next couple of weeks, is there ANYTHING on the horizon for us to look forward too.
