And it's rained ALL night out here again, awesomely heavy shower at about 10.45pm but only lasted momentarily has showered for the remainder though. It's the first morning for about a week that the temp hasn't been over 30 degrees at 8am! How much rain did you measure from this event you mention? Mackay - we have heavy MIST today, better than LIGHT mist

12 mm to 9am. Its drizzling away here at the moment, I think there must be some heavier falls around the mountains, popped down to Mirani this morning, and most of them are completely invisible. Usually they are clearly visible.

Some nice showers over the Whitsundays this morning giving me 31.6mm from the station. MTD finishes mid-night tonight and currently totals 343.2mm for January. My nylex was actually the less reliable rainfall value because of my shed was too close to where it was located. The rule for placing rain gauges away from structures is the distance away needs to be twice the height of the structure. Also recently noticed when the nylex fills the centre container up (25mm), the catcher lid floats up and moves off the level and tends to fill up with water as well. Ended up buying anothery, placed in a different location and now the station somewhat agrees with the nylex.

Hey Rainrunner, I gather you have the same Nylex as myself (Round clear plastic with 25mm tube in centre & black funnel), because mine did the same from new. Only the centre would fill up, get an air lock, then overflow out the funnel, especialy with heavy rain. Here's an easy fix. Get the outside clear container. Using a small round file, and filing almost parallel to side of container, put some grooves in outside surface of container, running from top to down a couple of mm further than where bottom lip of funnel sits. You don't have to file them all the way through the plastic, just enough to leave grooves. I put in four grooves. Has not overflowed due to air lock since. Guaranteed to work! (Yes, I was bored that day...quiet day today too!)

Not sure, didn't check the gauge yesterday so don't know what was already in it.

It looked like we where going to get a few storms here in mackay, I watched them build up and roll in from the beach today but they didn't produce to much as far as rain goes the only thing that came out of it was a few rainbows.
