http://www.bom.gov.au/cgi-bin/wrap_fwo.pl?IDN60157.htmlBathurst received 35mm in 2-3pm and 23mm in 3-4pm, and the Airport received bugger all in comparison. Seems to be the usual case though, rarely see both stations record high intensity rain. Has been an afternoon of showers in Sydney, that seem to have been gaining strength after a bit of travel across ground. Cloud cover has been consistent throughout the day, only gaps of sun when the showers were clearing.

What an afternoon. First storm at Bathurst, started on the Great Western Highway with heavy rain and hail. I have some great photos and videos just need to set a photobucket account. Then I went onto Dubbo. Returning I encountered another hail storm and again will post more photos. Heaps of lightening and a pretty severe hail storm. Noticed on the radar this storm at Wellington hung around for several hours. Just got home to Castlereagh and currently having a deluge. Been one wet afternoon/night out west. Please inbox me if you want photos and videos before I set up my photobucket account.

Torrential rain here last night with 15mm in as many minutes. There was some thunder to the northeast as the rain was contracting away. Falls of 30 to 55mm were common from just south of here into a number of locations. I recorded a brief peak rain rate of 126mm/hour.

a huge total in the balgownie flood guage.. 100+mm... looking at radar it seems that area has been in an area of convergence perhaps? not sure if I truly believe the amount though with other stations around the region not coming close.. heck, bellambi is only on 10mm and its only a couple km east.

I drove through that area at 5am and 100mm would be close to the mark, there was a lot of minor flooding but heading towards Bellambi it backed right off real fast. Just checked my gauge here in Berkeley and has 26mm

That strong cell over Bondi extended to Randwick with steady downpour for about half an hour. Only one roll of thunder around 8.45. Recorded 25mm in about 30 mins. My friends raingauge next to Centennial Park recorded 51mm to 9am, lots of water over road in the area.

Took a time lapse of one of the cells that passed over Sydney, seemed to mainly affect Manly. Looks to be convection of the cells as they hit land. http://youtu.be/ocIMHEBCTyM

Good pics there guys, and an impressive timelapse from Sydney! None of that activity made it to the Merimbula region, only thing to report is partly cloudy skies with conditions just warm enough to enjoy the surf without feeling too cold lol Just in case you guys are interested, here's the Weather Chaser Newcastle 512km radar sequence (2AM on Saturday January 14th 2012 until now) for this rain and storm event over NSW: http://www.theweatherchaser.com/radar-loop/IDR041-newcastle/2012-01-13-15/2012-01-15-13

DaveC, thanks for those links, do you know what parts of Bathurst were most affected?. I find those obs of 80mm a bit hard to believe, Airport 16mm, Ag station 26mm. Hail can be a real pest blocking drains. Its funny how Bathurst can sneak in these storms that only develop over the low country, up here only 2mm.
