I wish the doppler images expand out 256klms to see the winds etc.. for that blob out to sea-also some cells coming in from the NE as well-something is brewing out there.....

Can confirm heavy rain and infrequent thunder here on the northside.

looking at the surface winds there appears to be some convergence just north of Brisbane in a line out across the coast. The cells seem to be building along that line.

Nice shots Dragonfly, but judging by the BOM rainfall no one got too much out of it or is it a case of the falls missed the official alerts?

That small amount of rain came up on the radar but not for long, the cell further out to the NW in the previous image stole the show.

here is another shot of it

I'd be a little concerned about that cell off the coast. The obs suggest it will slowly move west, and if it maintains current intensity once it reaches the coast would be sure to cause flash flooding. The rainfall rates according to the radar are around 40-50mm an hour, and the whole cell is extremely slow moving.

My concern is without a warning or any mention on BOM website (forecast for rest of Thursday is "showers and some local thunder") that people will be going to bed, and could be woken up by a very nasty suprise in the early hours of the morning...

You're spot on Shama it's unfolding now as I type this. Morton council has been phoning people to prepare for flooding and a few other councils are doing the same. Can't sleep here, been watching this for hours.
