Great Idea JRB. This can be called the Soapy thread.

I really just want to say, if you (and I am guilty) want to tell people to stop posting irrelevant posts in the weather threads - then just don't - you are only adding to the mess. You can now do it here - like I just have.

Where is all this negative tension coming from anyway. Is it because of the weather threat playing on peoples minds?

Ok then where are the complainers and critics??

Jeff, thank you so much for your interesting video updates. Adds a whole new dimension to this event and I have certainly been learning a lot about weather from you.
Now when are these weather chases??

I don't think you will see many critics here because they can't get lost in the thread it's not active enough! Haha

Jeff does an excellent job & as I mentioned in another post, people were in a state of panic this morning, asking if they should go to or go home from work etc but the one thing I found most disturbing is that people were asking me if they should or shouldn't send their kids to school, if they should pick them up and that had me a little taken aback. Some parents had to use public transport and were in the effected areas.

I know I wouldn't have been asking a stranger on the net if I should get my kids, but then again im more aware when it comes to weather events. I'm glad Jeff does the updates and keeps people informed, the media sure doesn't.

Would like to thank Jeff for all his updates on his FB page. I have "liked" his page so I get all of his updates and like the fact that he takes notice of smaller areas outside Brisbane/sunny coast. (eg, mentioned about a stationary cell on Fraser Island last night which I wasn't aware of.. and wasn't posted on the BOM site).

I must say that I take great pleasure in watching his videos, as I have read stuff on weather.. but when I watch the videos it just clicks and makes everything so easy to understand. I would like to one day think I could have the same knowledge as him as I am a weather enthusiast.. but dont know all the scientific stuff yet - but his videos are slowly helping me make that goal a reality smile

I think everyone needs to keep in mind that every forecaster has their own style and opinion. Simply if you do not like what you are reading get your information from a different source or even better many sources (forecasters). I think no forecaster deserves to be treated harshly and flammed especially because of how much time and effort goes into years of education, analyzing the charts and getting the information delivered to the public in a clear concise and understandable manner which I have to say is probably the hardest thing to do.

Meaning: I dont see the point of this thread.

Ok, seriously guys, why does there need to be a "Higgins Storm Chasing thread"? I am pretty sure Jeff is big enough and bad enough to take care of himself. He already stated on the other thread that he is not letting the detractors get to him - so I dont understand why everyone feels this misguided need to step in on his behalf.

Reading someones inflammatory comment, and then posting a comment in a thread about how their post doesn't add to the discussion... DOES NOT ADD TO THE DISCUSSION. All it does is inflame the situation further.

Also, posting a "ok everyone take a chill pill, I agree/disagree/dont be mean to my friend you big meanie" and then putting a one liner about the weather (back on topic - we have had 5mm) is NOT constructive. Its so transparent that you couldn't resist a little dig, and have tried to make some vague reference to the weather to try and validate your post.

If you dont like a post - you have 2 choices. (a) notify the mods and move on. (b) ignore it. Really - how hard is that? At this point the SEQ thread should be renamed the "playground" thread, what with all of the bitching, whinging, hair pulling and generally juvenile behavior going on.

"Shama, you are being so hypocritical by posting this" i hear you say... maybe, but as this is the lounge, I feel its probably the best place to say something.

Meaning: I dont see the point of this thread.

That's why I asked smile . Its quite clear to me that there has been tension building in here for a while. I don't pretend to know anything about weather, hence why I'm here. I just like to photograph it. I understand that with weather events (such as this) people need to exercise caution not to over exaggerate or cause panic, that words need to be chosen carefully. Some people on here believe Jeff's comments create concern here as they may create this kind of situation. No one can get the weather right 100%, so yes he and many others are going I get it wrong a percentage of the time. IMO what people fear is a lack of information, not getting a heads up, not understanding the finer details of our dynamic weather, Jeff is going out there and explaining it in Easy to understand terms, and the information its consistent. This is what people are appreciating and listening to. I agree with AC, just because someone puts effort in, doesn't make it right, but rather than this negative hysteria, why not offer a solution. If you don't agree, work together, people want information, regularly. In terms they can understand, especially in events like this. I have been a member here for only 2 years and I still know pretty much zip. I am too scared to post most of the time, in case my uneducated comments get flamed by someone who is having a bad day. No one wants to be belittled on a forum. My questions have been skimmed over and I feel like an ass. Am I a supported of Jeff? Yes, I am also a supported of the forum. But lately the clicky high school "we know everything" club along with some rude new comers is just getting out of control.
Maybe there needs to be a revision of topics, one that breaks down events as the happen for the ultimate weather novice, one thread for "what's happening where you are" for those mundane comments (that I post, it's all I can offer) such as ' it's just started to rain here in xxxx' or a separate on of photos. I don't know, it's just suggestion on my part, and of couse all of the above is just my opinion.
I joined this forum to assist me in my storm photography and thanks to it, I have some stellar shots an met some great people and I can't thank the people on here enough. But some sh*t needs to be sorted out, enough with the snide comments. Debate is healthy, we can all learn something if it's done correctly.. And that's what I'm here to do, learn something, not read garbage that is damaging my optical nerve... They are beginning to twitch, I'm getting concerned wink
