Hi Evereyone, thought it was time to start a wet season thread for the 2011 - 2012 season. May be a bit early, but I thought the last event that we had in the last couple of days was good enough reason to start.

Got 20mm overnight in Biggenden town. Other places Gayndah 47mm, Maryborough 21mm and Bundaberg a lean 12mm.

We have had 60ml since Thursday night. Been nice to hear it going into the tanks.

Do we have any guesstimates on what the season is going to bring? We had around 40mm in Dalby.

I don't know what will happen. Some say wet, some say drier, some say not a lot.

I just treat it the same every year. Stock up on things so if we are flooded in, cycloned on, fired, or whatever else could be thrown at us we come through it as good as we can.

Nice to see somebody kick off a thread for the Wide Bay Burnett. smile

We ended up with 54mm from the weekend rain event, almost doubling our August average. Looks like we aren't alone:

Thunderstorms adding to wet August in Queensland
Brett Dutschke, Monday August 29, 2011 - 13:16 EST
Eastern Queensland is having a thundery end to winter, giving many locations their wettest August in more than a decade.

Parts of southeast and central Queensland have now doubled their monthly average.

St Lawrence, in Capricornia, now has more than four times their monthly average of 23mm. Their 93mm so far this month makes it their wettest August in 13 years. The city gained 58mm from storms on Sunday, their heaviest downpour in five months and heaviest August downpour in 13 years. In 1998, August records were broken in St Lawrence - 80mm in a day and 218mm in the month.

Nearby, the weekend's storms have helped Rockhampton to 64mm this month, 36mm more than average. This makes it their wettest August since 1998, when a record 228mm fell.

Further south, Maryborough, Maleny and Mt Tamborine have all doubled their monthly average, gaining more than 100mm.

These areas could see further storms in the next few days as a trough lingers, adding to the already wet month.

A side-effect of this storm-bearing trough is hot, dry winds in the northwest of the state, producing the highest fire danger of the year. Fire Danger has reached the severe category in Burketown and Julia Creek.

Here's to a bumper storm & wet season!

From the last two events in August we have done well here 106mm recorded in my rain gauge which has transformed my place from brown to green! lots of frosty nights and lack of rainfall was the blame over winter which now farmers all over the area are burning that dead long grass to make way for new regrowth in the pastures so now the air here is very smokey at the moment.

I heard on the radio a day or so ago that the WBB could be a dry one for this storm season and and the bloke mentioned those storms we had the other day was a one off? I disagree cause its shaping up to be a far better storm season than others for quite sometime going off the climate models, the general model patterns have been quite good for the end of winter, but late next week models are starting to show a deep SW pattern, I certainly don't that crap back again I'm loving this weather we have been experiencing lately!

Bit of activity here this morning. Been heavy showers / storm activity here since about 8am. Not much in the way of lighting strikes though.

The local Biggenden car show had its re introduction today after 2 years. Not good weather for them. But they appear to be pushing ahead with it.

Well that was nice - haven't checked the gauge but certainly some strong wind gusts along with the odd piece of very small hail. Wouldn't expect much more out of this system now the main line has passed.

I got rain. I got rain. 18ml of it. Yay.

Couple of pics of it coming in.

And what the darling son found when he went to check the gutters.

He has released him over at the dam. Our house yard isn't safe for him with the dogs.

35mm here, 33mm @ the airport with winds gusting to 67km/h ahead of the line. Looks much drier now, uppers are also quickly stabilizing for us given the tilt of the upper trough.

Thanks Dark and Stormy.

I am sitting in cloud cover and thunder. Looked at the Gladstone radar and we have a little storm happening. Tiny little storm. There are a few other little storms in the area too.

Well, the first one was a fizzer for me. I got a few, very few, fat blobs of rain fell.

Now I am lucky to get another storm. They are forming not far away and coming over me. Normally I miss lots of storms due to my mtn out the front.

There is pea sized hail in our storm. My poor car which isn't in the shed. It isn't big enough to cause damage I don't think. I hope.
