Most forecasts seem to agree that a turn to S then SW just prior to landfall near the Pilbara coast is on the cards at this stage. Look out guys!

System is still being sheared to the west south west by high wind shear.

System is still moving se smile

Expect rapid intensification overnight and into tomorrow as wind shear relaxes and the storm moves under a upper high.

Do you think that there is any chance that if Iggy fails to slow/become stationary as predicted, that the trough wont have as much time to influence it S/SW as much, thus the ridge's influence will keep it on the current SE trajectory, possibly making landfall between Onslow-Karratha?

It stalls of the coast of Onslow and gives them destructive winds for at least 12 hours.

Awesome from a storm chasing perspective, however not good for someone who is actually caught up in the system.

Anythings possible weatherggrl. each update and co-ords have it pushing ever so slightly to the east. So what last night had exmouth now has Onslow, as for the next 48 hrs?? anyones guess. There still remains a level of uncertainty and rightfully so. With competing and also weakening steering influences, and so many variables like initial trajectory, speed, timing of the slow down etc will all have an influence in the final path and I guess BOM are just doing there best, but no doubt things will change.

It seems that when the system slows down to near stationary is when it 'bombs' away for that period that trav was saying off the coast. Just to what level it will bomb is frightening to think.

Ok, just not sure "Awesome" would be the word I'd use - especially if I lived in Exmouth.

Anyway, CDO has increased considerably in size again overnight

Still no hint of an eye, and as has been mentioned previously the SE qadrant is being subject to some shear (Edit: no it shouldnt be! it is probably a dry air intrusion ... but not sure about that either!) which is limiting development. THis is clear on the Microwave shot from 2hrs ago

but it is getting there.

JTWC have it veering away from the coast earlier than BoM

Longer term could see a hit or the remnants affecting SW WA (Perth / Bunbury) around Friday next week ... just in time for my staff party on a boat on the Swan... will be watching with interest!

Thanks for that Popeye -these phenomenons's course seem to be harder to predict than the lotto numbers! crazy

What is with the bureau equipment ! they better have this sorted before Iggy touches base with it ! unless it was some unexpected power interruption...

Been raining steadily in Karratha for most of the morning. Loving the rain, was missing the sound of it on a tin roof...

Overcast cloud relatively low. Coming up to 50mm since 9am yesterday (mostly since about 11pm) and over 50 already at Roebourne, 30+ in Hedland, Barrow nearly 80mm.
Visibility sucks at times.

radar looks like its hammering down along most of the coast.

Definately getting worked over by the trough and the approaching cyclone.

But amazing that only 50 miles or so inland its almost completely clear of weather.

To me it looks like the BOM are starting to hint at the S/SW turn in their latest track map. Still a fair way off the coast but at this stage I'd be surprised if Iggy hooked enough to miss land. My initial guess was Exmouth or south, maybe that'll still be correct, but from the eastern side of the NW Cape instead!!

Finally have had some rain through the night. Quite heavy for some periods too! Just getting some deep rumbling thunder come through now.

Gets more and more east each release so it will be interesting to see where it does go. BOM are still sticking with heading above Onslow and then heading due south for a while on the SSU and low end Cat 4.

Hmm Its only a matter of time I guess, 1st step will be intensification - moving into lower vertical wind sheer, to the east of the system currently, then it comes down to the sub tropical ridge.. will it take affect in time ? I dont think it will be as strong as predicted, Iggy will touch base with the coast however for how long is unknown at this stage.

Is everyone getting prepared over their ?

Friends in Exmouth are starting to have a bit of a panic, a lot of the houses there are pretty flimsy, the old fibro norwesters.

Its barely stopped raining here in Hedland for 2 days - been awesome!

Im new to this weather thing - its quite exciting. Have been stalking you guys for about 4 years - learnt a lot from all of you :-) Thanks for the learning and entertainment!

Camshaft, it's been interesting here due to the main highway being shut for a couple of days anyway due to bushfires so we have been short of basic supplies again. So it's getting them for the cyclone but also getting them for the flooding so if trucks can't get through via either highway it means you still have meat/fruit/milk etc.

As long as I have some alcohol in the fridge I'm good! poke
