The Norwest is going off tonight along the trough line. Maybe even Broome may get a decent storm - not just that nice sloppy Monsoonal shower stuff.

All outlooks that I have checked for the short to medium term (2 weeks) has sunny icons for Broome. Often after a strong monsoon there is a lull period before the next one. When that is nobody knows.

Was that the only real NW monsoon of the season or is there more install?? If we were to follow any typical MJO cycles (even though the last wasn't overly strong) I would say another 20-30 days away before the next big belt of monsoon. All speculation really but anywhere from the 20th Feb onwards things should really ramp up again before a late FEB burst of TC's across Australia. Unless of course if when the Monsoon retreats back North over the top end there is a brief window for an unexpected LOW to spin up over the next week??

Wow did it get quiet on the rain side of things in a hurry. Blue skies and not even the hint of a thunderstorm. Oh well, this is meant to be one of the wetter months of the year. Missing that rain we had already. All set now with the new wheels to chase some thunderstorms and it's dead. Bugger.

Had a bit of a surpise thunderstorm this arvo to the North of Broome. Looked nice to see some convection on the horizon. I'm off to freeze my ar$e off in Tassie for a week now so looks like I wont miss much other than blue sky. Betcha it will be crappy weather in Tassie. Oh well looking forward to being cold. lol

Broome had a good storm last night, with plenty of wind and lightening, not much rain.
Thunder in the distance this arvo, with some activity to the NE... looks like we're back on track!! smile

Broome had a couple of good thunderstorms last night. Wind reaching 73kms/hr , some classic lightntng bolts and 20 mms of rain . Lasted for a couple of hours and started about 3.40am . This morning light rain but temperature cooled right down .
The ground is wet again for only the second time in nearly 3 weeks Yippee.

Another thunderstorm this morning at about 9.30am with winds coming from every direction imaginable.Started off from the east then west then north and now from the south and all the sectors in between. At one stage it blew from the ENE at 81 kms/hr. Have only had about 8mms of rain though and light rain still falling now. The synoptic chart looking very encouraging for the next week at least with a lot of convection developing over the Kimberleys.Yet it was only a few days ago it seemed as if we may be heading for the driest Febuary on record but how quickly things can change in the tropics .

Woke this morning to a pleasant surprise, one of the best lightning shows I have seen in a long time towards Port Hedland. Was enjoying that with a cuppa while getting ready for work, drove through an absolute downpour of rain, surprised that the Airport is only showing 8.8mms for Hedland thus far. One thing I have to mention is the idiots on the road, they have no idea when visibility is low, big rains on the road to actually slow down a bit. Had one guy pass me this morning in a beefed up commodore, easily would have been travelling excess of 110km/hr in a 90km/hr zone. A statistic just waiting to happen that young fella. Thunderstorms predicted all week from the looks of things, travelling to Queensland - Weipa next week, mate there reckons I am going to see what real rain is all about, looking forward to it as I am going there for a site visit, might be saying bye bye to WA and joining those Queenslanders.

Yeah same just happenend in Broome this morning too. Nice welcome home after a bit of a work/holiday in Tassie. Close range lightning strikes all around the house. Power outages frequent but only for a few seconds and then back on. Awesome. Surprised to see only 14mm in the BOM gauge. In the week away I just emptied 109mm from our backyard gauge. Seems Broome has been getting a bit while away. Looks like its back to the wet season again for the foreseeable future.

Edit - that 14mm was to 7:40am when the BOM power must have been taken out. I would expect it to be much higher when the manual gauge gets emptied. Maybe 50mm+??

Great looking storm heading to the east of Hedland, the lightning in it is the most I have seen on the radar for a long time. Hope it swings to the west a bit, but wishful thinking.

Storm finally hit Broome but lost a lot of its grunt by the time it hit town. Just had a cracking gunshot boom just before. The dog hit the roof. Grumble following it went for at least 40 seconds. Awesome. Light rain now. Hope Hedland cops a good one. Will check out the radar.

Wind just picked up big time, maybe we won't be missed, looks like we might get a bit of moisture out of this one.

Bugger, looks like it is side swiping us, great light show outside, bit of rain but nothing substantial, must have been a ripper cell.
