I think enough rain is falling now to see some significant flooding on a number of river systems. GFS has seemed to be most accurate with this one and I think its time for a new thread. Have yet to check the gauge here, but I would say around 25-30mm over night and a blustery SE blowing at the moment. Namoi radar shows plenty more to come.....

Finally got some decent falls in Sydney, GFS seems to be hinting at 50mm throughout the day, and the rain band has certainly set in. Had some pretty high winds in the East, bit of tree damage observed on the way into work at Rosebery.

15mm here so far and raining nicely atm
Interestingly all our rain is falling from south-east stream showers, as opposed to the rainband which is still a little bit too far north to be affecting this location

I wish we'd get some of this. We seem to have dropped back into a pattern where southern NSW gets very little rain, and NE NSW gets too much! We have the cold SE wind though, oh goody.

Storm Freak, those Tamworth dopplers are intensifying - now more than 90km/hr, towards and away from radar side by side - the uplift must be tremendous. Severe storms or tornado generators?

That sort of thing is pretty normal for this time of year though, flooding rains from Port Macquarie north and high pressure keeping the southern states dry. Probably even more pronounced in La Nina. Wagga got lucky last week so maybe Canberra will too. That rainband looks to be slipping further NE if anything so Sydney may dry up this afternoon apart from the SE stream showers.

Pretty swirls ... Sincerely hope it doesn't look the same from the ground! Mostly farmland?
I hope the Tamworth festival campers have packed up, because if they haven't, there is quite a cleanup ahead....

I'm glad my girlfriend and I rode the Circular Quay-Manly Ferry on Monday and visited the Blue Mountains (Leura, Katoomba, and the Three Sisters) yesterday... the weather out there this morning looks just like any ordinary rainy day back home in Melbourne lol On the plus side, it's a welcome relief from Monday's sweltering 33C heat, I still can't believe it was around 28C at midnight! Dangerous surf expected today, which is just as well, this lousy weather has spoilt our plans to go to Bondi. Is there a chance for thunder in the Sydney area today?

I'd say 'Nein' for thunder in the Basin today, maybe further north is a chance. 28C at midnight is more common in Melbourne than here, but you don't get the 20C DPs in that situation. February is a miserable month in Sydney for sightseeing- when it's not raining it's uncomfortably sticky. Best time of year is August-September imo when sunshine and comfortable temps are almost guaranteed.

Ah well, we'll see what happens for storms around the Sydney Basin today Yes it's not uncommon for Melbourne to stay at around 28C at midnight, but very rarely does it get as humid with such high dew points as Sydney. Yeah it looks like my gf and I picked a bad month to visit, but at least the weather hasn't been too unkind lol I was here back in July 2010 with my family, again for sight-seeing. The weather wasn't at its best but a lot better than Melbourne in July I'll say! haha the day we landed (July 8th) was actually the worst day with heavy showers passing through and only 15C in the CBD (felt like we hadn't left home) lol

I've had another 17 mm's since it began overnight. This is on top of almost 90 mm's last week. It's a decidedly coolish 18.6 deg's here too.

Very interesting set-up here, and one that GFS picked up beautifully over a week out. Almost stationary stream of heavy rain (still increasing) from S QLD right down into the hunter, will sit there nicely for another 2-3 days with 150-300mm falls looking likely, wouldn't be surprised to see some isolated 300-400mm falls, even 500 isn't out of the question with a possible strong convergence forming over the MNC some time tomorrow. Guaranteed to see some ripper flooding in many areas given the ground is already saturated!
But there's more - another onshore event looks on the cards early-mid next week that could extend well inland similar to what we have now.

A bit weird here today -- wind has been from E-SE all day (and quite cool at 13C), but just a bit to the west that huge system is barrelling down from Qld and over the Hunter area with, presumably, NW winds.

There is a howling E/SE wind here in the Watagans too. Namoi radar shows a bit of weird wind action on doppler... it would be important to note that just because the rain is moving from the NW, the wind does not have to be coming from that direction. It could be completely the opposite at ground level.
