If I am reading the BOM's weather and wave map correctly, it looks as though Melbourne in particular my area (western suburbs) may get between 5 to 10 ml, on Friday. Saturday appears to be the same amount. Overall for our area I think BOM had it at perhaps 15 to 25 for the 24 hr period. The higher totals look like they are in the East.

Severe storm warning out .. and only my third day here!

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds, very heavy rainfall, flash flooding and large hailstones in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Wodonga, Corryong, Bright, Bairnsdale, Orbost and Falls Creek.

When they say large hailstones, is that just a possibility, or do they really mean likely??

Things, bear in mind that hail has to be 2cm to reach severe level, which can't really damage anything, but its just a warning for the hailstones that are slightly bigger, thats what I think.

Katyer severe storms are most likely out east during the next few days, the BOM forecast says that western suburbs are more likely to get the rain but I doubt it, it'll be an interesting event that is for sure.

Doesn't look like Petros has copped anything yet but its really exploding to the NE of Maffra, any reports Petros?

Thanks for that. Do I have a chance of seeing any hail here in Wodonga, or are we too far West / too low to see that? I'd like to experience hail again, but not damaging!

Hard to tell, looks like Wodonga is missing the worst cell but you may get some small hail, basically aslong as its not a full black core it shouldn't be anything more then just around the severe area.

Hehe, biggest hail I have experienced was only smaller than pea sized stuff in Melbourne .. 2cm would look huge!

Petros is in Maffra, I'm in Sale, but we are not seeing anything here yet. Hope it comes our way but don't think it is likely.

To the west of here pretty much blue skies, to the east can see the cumuls building, looks good for those living in the East of the North East Region.

Can see all the wonderful cumulus building to my east, so near and yet so far, Some of those storm cells are only 20km or so away. Now that is frustrating! Seems to back building along the river. We could be lucky to get something by tonight.

Radar is a bit odd ATM, has been saying light rain for a while now and we haven't had much at all.

hey Things...when we had that mothership of a hail storm/super cells in Melbourne quite some time ago (2010), the hail we got here (well actually they were chunks of ice) were big.
One we picked up from the grass filled a good sized cereal bowl. Others were exploding (breaking up) as they pummelled our roofs. One roof hole was the size of a dinner plate. There are photos on the net of many of the hail stones reaching up to the size of baseballs.
When it hit, it scared the #$@%$# out of us. Even the dog still freaks now when the smallest bit of hail falls.
I had never seen ice chunks/hail like that in all of my 40 plus something years.

Yeah duck, for some areas it was as big as the Christmas day hail storm, but I think that one trumps the March 6 ones just because there were 4 supercells that passed over the same areas. And when you see light precipitation on the radar that you cant hear/see I believe its called Virga.

yep...won't forget Xmas Day in a hurry either
