That smoke isn't just down south, we woke up to a good thick cover that has hung around all day in the mid west too.

Yeah Perth has been full of smoke haze for a few days now. Reports are that it is all the way up to Geraldton.
South east winds push it out to sea and then the sea breeze brings it back in.
Must be a big burn to create this much haze.

It's a long way north of Gerro B-Bill, it looks like it is as far up as Shark Bay.

Kind of gives you a good indication of why nuclear power would be a very bad idea on the west coast, doesn't it?

Smoke still festering around today in Perth.
It seems to be geting thicker rather than dispersing. Anyone have any reports as to the fires movements.

Fire is still burning but contained.
24000 hectares affected.
Last I heard it was about 13 km east of Northcliffe.
Smoke will continue north and affect areas as far away as Geraldton in the next few days.

How can the smoke move north while the weather moves east??

The jet stream is taking the weather east. The southerly winds are blowing the smoke north.

News is that Northcliffe fire has jumped containment lines and residents have been evacuated from town.
So far 28000 hectares have been burnt.
Fire moving at 1200 meters per hour. Not good news at all. I hope all stay safe and fire crew get her under control.

After being given the all clear for close to a week, a fire advice warning has just been re-issued for south of Northcliffe.

Due to hot and windy conditions, flare ups are expected.
