This is a bit sad, yesterday the forecast was for possible storms around dawn today, clearing to a hot day. They later removed the early storms bit. Well, we're getting one! Not exactly dawn, but at dawn it did look like we were in for it, and now we are. Nothing dramatic though.

I hope it does warm up, I am feeling a bit under-dressed. Absence of wind during this weather cycle has been noteable, I wonder if that's a late summer or early autumn thing?

As PD says, blazing sunshine with a few wisps of cirrus on the horizon. 30C should be reached in western Sydney allowing for ample heating, you'd think there'd be something out there. The sun does have that tired look about it though, autumn is about to knock on the door in the more elevated areas. High SSTs should keep autumn away from the coast for a little while yet.

BOM have added the dreaded "mainly in the west" into the 05:15 forecast, not to mention they've pumped up the NE'ly from "light winds mainly from the northeast" to reaching 30k/hr near the coast by afternoon, so the chance of any interruptions seems unlikely at this stage.

I wouldn't rule out rain in the East, I don't think we'll have much luck with good quality Tstorms though.

Dramatic increase in towers everywhere around us here. A very tall storm creeping towards us - just going over Blayney now. radar shows a number of strikes - looks very impressive from here, now too close to get a good shot of the structure and overshoot.

The storm to our NE (north of Lithgow pushing over the Wollemi upper Colo region) looks good from here too. Shooting up through a cap.

The sky here has changed dramatically in the last 20 minutes. I got quite a surprise when I looked out again.

Storms now rapidly developing on the Southern Highlands and BMs. Hard to see the cricket not being interrupted now.

A number of large and menacing looking towers to the SW and W... just hope there is something around after work to photograph.
A bit torn too, want to watch the cricket .... hopefully there's just a small disruption and we get 30-40 overs each side.

This link shows developing storms southwest of here. If you click on the time lapse link you will see some synchronised convection going up; the shear is quite pronounced at high levels.

The NE'ly seems to be eating that storm alive around the Macquarie Pass area. The Mittagong Range sure is copping a pounding, as is Kangaloon- we had a member from Kangaloon a while back but haven't heard from her in a while.

Storm splitting around Bx - very black just to our south with a very solid rain belt, anyone under that will be copping it big time. Also a solid cell just to my north whilst in the middle we will get a shower.

They have gone up pretty quickly I must admit. I daresay Bowral would be copping hail now, that should prompt a warning.
