Can someone explain to me why I have been in the middle of a huge great bloody donut hole these past few days? Nothing yesterday, barely a spit this evening and a sea of blue on the radar everywhere but here, it seems.
Impressed with the totals so far on the Sunshine Coast.
Hopped off my train at Thorneside this afternoon without an umbrella and felt I had a large bucket of water instantly tipped over my head. Solid torrential rain for almost an hour under a red and yellow blob over Manly, Birkdale, Thorneside, Ransome, Wakerley and Gumdale. Hubby measured almost two inches which wouldn't be surprising considering the amount of water in a short space of time in our local area.
Looks like significant falls inland from Caloundra. Current rainfall rate in excess of 50mm per hour and total rainfall up to 100mm since 9am. Interesting.
Not my video but this was shown on channel 7 local news
BANG = poo's
haha thats a little funny. think shes just learnt her lesson not to stand next to a window in a storm but yeah thats what it was like at my place yesterday.
Unfortunately, yesterday was a lesson for me in complacency. I had been watching the 'Greenbank cell', despite it being small, it sounded quite strong with the regular booming of distant thunder.
Again, it was another hazy day, so visibility was limited. I set the intervalometer and waited for the storm to come to me. Curvature of the base in the distance and a inflow band over VP became apparent.
With my eyes fixed on a distant meso behind Mt Cotton, I hadn't noticed the rainshaft grow wider, before slowly splitting into two.
On realising that the storm had split, and would no longer heading toward me, I began to stagger back through the mud to my car.
Even though I was NE of the cell, the outflow started to obscure the already hazy structure.
I jumped in the car, and headed south to intercept. Unfortunately, the roads could only get me further into the surrounding outflow. I ended out in Carbrook facing away from the cell. But chose to cut my loses, and concentrate on the fantastic updraft from the 'Coomera cell'.

nice pics there scott, i was wondering what that was looking like as i was watching it on the radar. I have anothe video from 21/feb, after leaving amberley I headed to the jacobswell area for the storms developing closer to the coast.I stopped briefly south of peaks crossing to look at the rear of a cell heading to greenbank, then a quick stop at the back of beenliegh/yatala area as another cell passed overhead. The rest of the footage is from the jacobs well/ cabbage tree point area where there was some nice rotation, the last cell just decayed before my eyes but was still nice to watch. hope you enjoy, cheers
Was down near Coffs/ Grafton on the 20th and snapped a couple of pics of a storm which developed over the ranges west of coffs harbour then moved NNE after coming off the ranges. Couldn't stop to get footage but I think Kane was onto the same storm and he has posted some footage timelapse.
1-15pm(NSW time) app over ranges
2-45pm storm to E of Grafton
3-20pm looking sth from near Maclean
separate note saw a fairly severe looking storm a fair way west of Kempsey on the 19th
Chucked together a bit of footage of storms 19th to 21st 21st footage shot up near Maleny, starts just as the right mover splits and starts heading toward Bribie Island. and ends about 10 mins before the wind damage happens at Cooroy.
nice photos and video gustfront, that photo taken at 3.20 near maclean (20/feb) i think it was the same storm i was watching from yamba, it was about 3.30 when i started videoing it. it looked the goods as it approached but just sailed silently overhead and out to sea, it did have some nice rotation and was a beautiful sight. cheers
I had kind of written that storm off joesk after it started to gust out and swing more easterly direction over Yamba. but it certianly had a nice looking base toward the end of your sequence as it heads out over the ocean. well done on the vid
if I had of grabbed a bit of footage back Sth of coffs and and a short section at Maclean we'd have a full sequence. with enak's
