Thanks Mick10 for the advise.
Looks like that little front just wiped past the cape with little rain if any. Not so good conditions for the Rotto swim however with onshore winds and a bit of swell. shuld make for very uncomfortable conditions for the swimers and skippers. Recon some of them will wish for a shark to come along and call it off after a few hours. Maybe a chance of a few drops from this second small front on the way Sat/Sun. Wont hold my breath however.

Ive seen this pattern before. SW = dry. Rest of Australia = wet. Just an observation.

When I lived there , I remember once SW WA was wet and Rest of Australia was dry. Will be interesting to see what the winter is like this year. Perth really needs more than 1 decent year of winter rains.

Does anyone know the last time there was "massive flooding " in Perth or further south ?

Vinnie Perth never floods! Why do you think we are called sandgropers? We dont have clay soil so the water (after it is soaked) soaks into the sand rather quickley. In saying that the last time we had some steet flooding was in the march 2010 hail storm when a lot of rain fell within a hour or so. I cant ever remember Perth having any major flooding. Usually just the subways and riverside drive cop a few splashes.

Yeah I know it is sand . I used to live there. I recall something in the West Australian paper last year mentioning flooding in WA back in the 50's closer to the city.

I remember the collie river flooding in 1982. we have had a massive climate change of less rain since then. http://www.water.wa.gov.au/PublicationStore/first/11445.pdfThere was a saying that a flood would occur about every 30 years. 2012-1982 = 30 The stats suggest we are due for a predicted flood soon. *looking out the window at clear skies*

Yeah went down the caves around the Margret River area a few years ago and all had pretty much no water in them. Lake cave was one that always had ponds of water in it and it was dry. As you Walffles a huge dry from what it used to be for that area. I wonder if it will ever return? Another hot day in Perth with a very hot 38 forcast for tue. Perths summer just continues as the rest of Australia is wet.

Are we in Autumn now, aren't we? It's still very hot and dry. All the rain cloud is avoiding Perth and hit the East.

Autumn it is but Perths hot summer always continues into March. With a very hot few days ahead ramping up to 38 on sunday. Looks like it will continue the following week as well. Only possible hint of rain is middle next week, and thats a long way off. Ahh well lets enjoy it because I am sure we will all be complaining when its cold, wet and dark by 5-30 in the arvo.

Perth needs another decent winter like last year, in other words two wet winters in a row. In the past few years whilst there has been a wet winter one year it doesn't seem to be the same the next year. Already 36 degrees in Perth and only 10.38am. I am definitely not missing those oven like temps that really hit you when you walk out of the shopping centre .

Not much happening for the Perth and sw area. Heatwave has finished after that little front cliped the sw capes. Temps for the next week around 30 max. No rain anywhere in sight. All a litle boring. At least we can keep a eye on the activity up north.

Yeah Vinnie it has been a bit hunid at night but a nice cool change from what we had last week. Still around 30 but nights have cooled off. Can not recall the last rain we had. I think it may of been around Australia day long weekend when we had a thunder storm. No fronts have made it north enough to give us any wet yet but as you know its our normal weather for early march. Wont be long now and rain will be a weekley event. I always recall when we go camping at easter it always rains. Anyway Im going to enjoy it while it lasts because I hate cold wet dark winters!

Looks like Perth will miss out on rain for another week or so as the low in the southern ocean pushes past to the south. Cyclone lua looks to land on the pilbra coast and head south east and give plenty of rain to the central parts but I think Perth and surrounds will miss out and anything significant. Ahh well our turn will come, its just a mater of wait and see!
