Thanks rookie! A LOT of work has gone into getting looking great again after Yasi.

I notice that the Townsville and Cairns radars are severely under representing the rainfall rates between Tully and Cardwell. The old Mt Stuart radar in Townsville was pretty good with its 256km sweeps, but with the new Hervey Range radar, it is crap now.

RD, I find the best radar for around here is the Townsville Airport radar on WZ, although the past couple of days it didn't pick up the heavy stuff very well.

Your place is looking good now, and I do appreciate the amount of work taken to get it right again.

See the IPad 3's camera works better then the Ipad2 RD, very nice. so when's all the thunderstorms hitting or have they already hit and I've missed it all whilst at work?

Rain has ceased here, the activity broke down quite quickly on the radar.

Could easily turn it into a true tropical paradise by adding some heliconia and ginger beds and reducing the mowing and roundup component..but hey, you obviously love the ride-on..some lovely feature bamboos and true flowering tropicals (saraca and brownea)would also look great in that landscape and really accentuate the natural topography of the place..

I do agree however on the radar..we have had intense rainfall periods of maybe 100 mm per hr and yet we are showing blue and white on the radar..hmmm...

Emptied the pool and the rain guage twice today. Rain overnight was 93mm with a further 71mm at 6pm. 164mm so far in the last 24 hours. Nice.

The rain has certainly greened up your gorgeous garden RD. I can't believe you guys are getting so much up there, I guess our time was last week, thank goodness that'a over.

I guess it isn't a gardening forum thread and RD is a moderator so he/she can delete this part however heliconias would look fabulous,gingers also and the odd brugmansia's ,would make a fantastic feature. Also if you're after some really colourful featured leaves the bronze cannas are stunning.I have a great selection here on Magnetic Island if you want some, just holler.

90mm in the gauge this morning & I can't wait to get home to see how much has fallen since! Been in Atherton all day & it rained steadily most of the day from what I could see.

Agree re radar, we find its often inconsistent for the southern Tablelands. A white pixel on the radar image can mean anything from bucketing down to a fine mist.

Edit: Great pics RD. Glad to see your gardens have recovered so quickly and so well from the thrashing they received in Yasi! All your hard work has definitely paid off

We do have some wild ginger with the huge pink/mauve flowers on top, and also some bird of paradise and heliconias, but up here THEY GROW LIKE MAD and spread quickly.

Seriously, if you spit on the ground here something will grow. MUCH different to Townsville lol.

Will have to research the plants mentioned, I really want to make this place a beautiful retreat and lush again, in defiance to Yasi.

Weather wise, its cool and still here at the moment, I doubt we'll see anything other than light showers overnight. Certainly a different story further Noth though.

RD... Euodea (CHECK) trees are the natural food for the Ulysses (dwarf varieties are available).... also try some black tarot and bat plants (the latter are very vampiric) for the understory.

Gee Pacman, don't know if you'll make another 52mm by midnight. Looks like its heading further north. But, you never know :-)

too hard to say ATM just keep an eye on the radar. the forecast says possible rain etc i don't think the bom even know so radar is best bet IMHO.

Ang... most of this should well and truly have pushed past us to the north by mid tomorrow... either way I would not expect anything remotely like the downpour we had this morning.
But to be on the safe side have a quick look at the radar as suggested by fnq1
