I hope there is not too much hail in this lot heading our way, never can tell with that yellow colour which seems to be building.

Doesn't look like much of a hail risk unless you get under one of those embedded storms, which I'm sure hoping I don't!! Hoping it might lose a bit of puff on it's way here as it cools down.

Northern and Eastern suburbs will be worst effected, maybe some hail if you get a direct hit in the core. Noticing some weird stuff on the doppler radar for the Kyneton cell.

Couple of quick ones...

Really needed pano's to capture the beauty of this thing (which i took and will stitch together later), but you get the idea. Was surprised how good it looked considering the radar was telling a different story.

Camera took a bit of a beating from the rain...anyone know how to remove water drops from 1) photos and 2) the actual lens? I've got dry water on there that just wont budge with my cloth frown

I know I may harp on about the cloud formations crazy but they have been fantastic today.
Knew we were gonna get whipped at some point from the 'tail' of this spiralling system.
How nasty it will be...will just have to wait and see.
Blackacubra seems to be dodging bullets (lightning strikes) if your last post was anything to go by crazy

P.s. Lovely pics and nice car (same as mine) Meso7...mines gunmetal/tungsten grey wink

At least it's easy for me to find the places you're referring to, since all the storms are in a big line grin

But does look interesting indeed.

What sort of weird Ant ? It does seem quite large with speckles of red, does that indicate rain intensity or hail ?

I love the cloud formations, fascinating stuff, talk about them as much as you like.

The doppler radar is for the wind, it doesn't have the same flow as the rest of the wind.

I don't mind the smaller hail, just because I've never really lived anywhere that experienced it much. I lived on the mornington peninsula for about 4 years and got hail maybe 3 or 4 times. It's exciting seeing small hail for me smile

The lightning isn't however. Unfortunately it seems rain and hail always come with lightning too poke

So funny because I love lightning, I think it is incredible, but when the thunder cracks I jump LOL ! As for the hail, the destruction around here on Xmas day has made me more than paranoid. We are still waiting to get our car fixed. It lasted a few minutes and caused months of pain and financial loss to many. Not just us. Anyway, lets hope no super cell size hail tonight eh ?

Beat me to it DVC! What a huge line of lightning/storms going cross country, literally. Can anyone figure out how many kms long that line is? I'd have guess and say 3000kms.
Great photography, Meso!

I too love lightning, however the fear of it striking my house or nearby is crazy. Not because of the lightning itself, but the deafening crack of thunder.

It's a really stupid fear, since the thunder is VERY unlikely to do any harm, but it's still there. I love watching lightning off in the distance, but as soon as it's overhead, thats enough for me!!

Heck, I even go to the effort of creating my own lightning smile

As for the line of storms, it's about 1100km long (Going from about mid Tas).

The green-ness in that pic is cool as Meso smile

Is that what I am hearing Ruckle ? I thought someone was moving their bin for real ! It doesn't sound like normal thunder and I've got the TV blaring as well.
