Awesome photos guys, although I would have been a bit scared for that one down at Moana beach, I would have had the camera outside but me inside if it wasnt raining...

I am very annoyed that I had to be at something from 7:30 to 9:30 last night, it spoilt what was an awesome day...would have been really nice to top it off with some night time lightning shots. Not complaining though, although from now on Im going to find a new vantage point - windy point is not good enough because all the storms spark over the nothern burbs and we see wonderful bolts hidden by trees...

saw Chris and Hayley up there, wonder what they got...its gotta be better than what I got. Ive already posted one photo, this one is another from home:

I then headed up to windy point to try and get some more lightning from there. Unfortunately, the lightning started off well in the NW and SW but it seemed to die a little on approach, particularly as the small "guster" - if I can call it that - came through. I got a couple of photos, though,

my brother, who works down there, saw these out of his office window...

Also I did a quick timelapse of the storms incoming, cbb removing flicker at this stage, or processing the photos at all. Bit of rotation evident, although I didnt have the best angle. I reckon im going to re evaluate where to go to get the best pick for storms - maybe mount lofty, I need a better view to the northern burbs.

Thanks for the birthday wishes folks.

Thanks for reminding me - a belated happy birthday to you! smile

Since it is most likely going to be recorded on the next day, this is all of the 15th of March rainfall recordings from 1839:
15 3 1843 9.7 W
15 3 1846 6.9 Su
15 3 1848 7.6 W
15 3 1865 2.0 W
15 3 1874 0.5 Su
15 3 1878 9.9 F
15 3 1881 1.0 Tu
15 3 1888 1.0 Th

15 3 1913 2.8 Sa

15 3 1992 4.2 Su
15 3 1996 0.4 F

As you can see, the first time in 16 years, and only 1mm off the daily record. It would have been a daily record for 5 out of the past 6 days before - the 11th seems to be elusive for decent rainfall!

I know it's a bit late, but here's a compilation video of CG's from yesterday here

Good to see you up Windy Point yesterday David. Mt Lofty is good as the storms approach, but as soon as they arrive, the whole summit tends to get shrouded in a lingering fog. Also, you know how well lightning and hight go together. Have a look at the tops of all the high trees next time your up there. I remember being up there at 3am a year or two ago and the strikes where deafening. Most where hitting the TV transmitters like one of the strikes in the video above, but at least one hit the fire lookout directly above. I can't quite remember, but had you two already left when that really close one struck just down the slope from Windy Point yesterday?

Looks like thje patchy rain expected in the pastoral, is developing further south than expected.
Currently its in a line NW of Whyalla, but aviation now has it moving to be NE of Whyalla-Lameroo by 14Z.
Would mean the Mid North & Riverland might get a bit more rain out of it than expected. (although at best 5-7mm I think) The band should have cleared by lunchtime, but the showers moving up from the south will hang around a bit.
Still looking ok for here for some reasonable showers in the early hours. Say 4am-7am now I think... Maybe 2-5mm in it...

Good to see all models starting to look bullish for mid-week rainfall next week.

wow that is now actually a rather impressive rainband.... Stretching from Tarcoola to Blanchetown.
Pity there doesnt seem to be much in the way of precip. at this stage. In the AWS's anyway...
Ever so creeping further south now. Might make it to about Clare/Eudunda before contracting, as the stream showers now from the SE are starting to impact on the Fleurieu....

A handy 5.6mm out of that lot. That coupled with yesterday's total gives us 21.0mm. What a fabulous start to autumn. grin

Yer sure looked pretty good, looking at the radar archive from about 1am to 3am.

Nice little stream showers moving through here now. Might manage 1-2mm....

frown I think the most photogenic stuff was that second line that formed over YP, and slid south. Along with other isolated storms around the same time.

Okay here is the significant rotation that Lennie and myself observed over the NE, just before the 6pmish storms hit...

Apologies for the camera movement and obvious lack of a tripod.
Because of that it is harder to see the rotation than I had hoped.

Just had a look through the post at the great shots taken Wednesday, especially along the Coast, got to get a new pad at Marino - Marine Parade or The Cove Road etc $$$, nothing too pretentious..

Some times I'm a bit too high up and far away for decent lightning shots.
My night time one's were far from decent but I managed 3 daylight ones in between the showers/rain. Managed about 12mm here, just enough.

I've placed them at the top of the page in the lightning trigger gallery, (strike 1-2-3, original wink )of which some of you have seen before. The link is HERE

Thought i would make a timelapse out of the cloud, lightning images from the other night rather than just deleting 80% of them. Its very jumpy, due to how much i had to move the frame to get lightning but yeah more an experiment than anything. At the end you can see planes circling to land after travelling over what I think would be Noarlunga
