We tried to get SES personnel to marble bar and nullagine late on Friday. Couldn't get them in due to cloud cover and the nullagine strip being mostly covered in water.... they ended up in Newman with the plans to drive up. They should have tried to get their earlier.
Been in the Jiggalong cop shop before (near Newman, in the current path of Lua), seemed sturdy enough to take a cat 1, probably a 2. Being government in a cyclone prone region, I would imagine the cop shops etc would be built to take something, but maybe not a 4 or 5.

This is a thought coming from the US in regard to what Jason and the team experienced.... " it was......probably formative stages of a concentric eyewall. It's rather common in strong cyclones, there are many cases where a very distinctive moat shows in radar/MW imagery, where wind/rain conditions are in a relative minimum close to the eyewall whereas a bit farther out you can experience a secondary maxima. This secondary maxima enhanced convection created a subsidence area around it, which is what was probably experienced......"

Hopefully all at jiggalong and newman are ok. Cyclones at night seem worse imho. It will be interesting to see the next track map. Looking forward to hearing obs and of course seeing more footage throughout the day.

I dunno, but I think if you don't get your footage sold and into tonights news/weather story's it will be all old hat.
There is quite a few snippets of Lua footage by some stations on TV now while its the hot topic but after tonight - commercial worth would be dubious at best
Get it out there quick lads!
