Nice storm off Broome this morning. Sky black as black can be. Reasonably lightning active. I feel this post may be the last rainy post for a while. We may need to start up a dry season thread aswell lol.

Just had a look at the latest sat image of Australia and it looks like Broome is the only place to see any form of stormy weather. Classic. lol. Not often that is the case.

Some pretty high/extreme CAPE in NW WA. Replotting the Port Headland sounding for 34/24, I get a CAPE of 3700 J/Kg.

As far as severe storms are concerned, it is a shame wind shear is weak. Still with the amount of CAPE on offer, I would say damaging winds are be quite likely.

Interestingly, a large cluster of storms is moving through the area hit recently by hit cyclone Lua. Never a dull moment up there!

That storm off the coast of Broome this morning was definitely nice!! A great pitch black sky as Popeye said. I took a few photos with the iPhone

I looked a the WZ tracker at one point and noticed that this was the only storm in Australia at the time... pretty cool feeling being so far from home and watching the only storm in Australia in such a beautiful area.

Seems promising for some more storms later today/tonight? An area of activity near Derby that has some momentum... hopefully it pushes through to the coast.

Yeah nice shots Ben. I wasn't expecting that today. Was out at work this morning around Gantheaume point around 8:50am and had to watch it carefully as it snuck around to the Swest just offshore. A beautiful backdrop though.

BLAHHHHH Hot in Broome today. High Humidity/Dew points. Sky has exploded inland over the last hour too. BSCH webcam facing SE captured it nicely. Will post a link up here once its done its thing. Quite explosive at the moment though. Hanging for the dry season to kick over. This heat is oppressive.

Thanks Popeye, nice to see the action up there.

Here is the morning sounding replotted with the afternoon obs (32/26)-
http://soundings.bsch.au.com/skew-t.html...=26&mixop=50tdp

5000+ J/kg SBCAPE! (MLCAPE most likely would be substantially lower with relatively shallow moisture). Nice structure on the BSCH webcam. Looks like more storms up there for the next couple of days too.

The sky around Broome early this morning was jaw droppingly beautiful. Every imaginable cloud structure all into one 360 degree vista. photos just wouldn't have done it justice. Very surprising weather here lately. Very hot and humid one day dry the next and then spectacular and unpredictable the next. Have had some very active storms most days too. Loving it.

Timelapse of just part of the sky this morning. Thanks to BSCH for the camera.

OH Well. It came it rumbled, it spat out a few drops of rain and 35knts and then split around town. Very nice light show for what I am thinking is the last storm for the 2011/12 season. Dry easterly surge to commence this week starting from this morning and it looks to set in for the next 7 days. Finally a drop in the humidity, cooler nights and perfect 30 degree winter days. AHHHHHHH!!!! Yes the dry season thread needs to be started I think.

Dry Season has arrived today. Nice cold 21 degrees overnight. Blowing its backside off from the east, humidity has dropped out, Cable Beach flat as a tack.

EC has dropped that WA LOW/Cyclone in the latest run but GFS has picked up a "Broome scooter" coming round from the north next Tuesday and then dissipating pretty quick. While dry air and wind shear comments from everyone make good logical sense I note that also this time of year is also chopping and changing between dry/wet patterns that anything could happen and happen pretty quickly.
