This cold change really is just a Tasmanian affair, I think that Vic BOM being so close just did not want to be left out. The reality is that some snow showers can sneak into southern Victoria to the highest exposed peaks, but will not go any further than that. This situation is so borderline there really could be a snowflake or two in Southern Vic but nothing at Crakenback, very maybe at Kosi. Here we will just see some cold air and a little dry low cloud, I am looking foreword to the colder air which will be a nice change

Thanks Blizz. I suppose my only question was why two BOM offices could be so different for what is essentially the same area? Anyhow, looks like it will be pretty good for this time of year. Good to see the cold will penetrate as far north as the OP as well. Anyway, off to the footy in Newcastle today. Go the Eels!!

Yeah, it is confusing Homer. There does need to be more uniformity for sure. I get the feeling that sometimes the less experienced mets in the RFCs sometimes push out a forecast a bit too soon. I used to get emails from a senior BoM contact of mine at times that found this frustrating. I think everyone does.
Tonights 00z charts could be interesting for sure but autumn is known for its chop and change on the charts, so lets wait and see.

Yes those temps in Bombala are low 4.2 at 4:30pm, and look at this from Merrits, quite hard to believe for there, but seems to be right. http://ski.com.au/snowcams/australia/nsw/thredbo/thredbo2.htmlSurprising that Cabrumurra is so warm by comparison at 4.2, just goes to show what a fine line it is with this cold change.

0.7c now at Cooma AP with precipitation - may not be settling but would surely be snow falling - I think the AP is around 930m.
Probably be snowing in Jindabyne also - is Homer at Kalkite this Easter? Just arrived aslaws at 4.50 pm. Cooma AP was 13.8 and sunnywhen I went past, but the change was just hitting. Berridale saw torrential rain and small hail, and when I arrived at Kalkite it was dry, but cold and overcast. Within about 20 minutes, it started raining. 5 minutes later it was sleet, which quickly turned to snow. It didn't settle though, so I jumped in the car with the kids and went back up to the top of the hill at 1200 mtrs. There was a good 1-2 cm settling and it was snowing quite steadily - this was at about 5.20. Took some video and photos that I'll try and put up later. The car thermo said zero degs at 1200 mtrs and 2 where we are at 930 mtrs. Cheers, Homer

Where is the "envy" button?
Nah great that someone is down there to record this. What a pleasant surprise! Meanwhile I've had to cancel my trip to the Monaro which was scheduled later this week, not that I would have seen any snow anyway. Rescheduled for the weekend after Anzac Day so maybe that will be the next front (the 27th and 28th has had a habit of producing something).

Thanks for that info Homer, hope you get pummled with snow, just noticed Cooma Airport is now 0.1, would have to be a little settled snow even there!!, crazy, certainly must be a few good coldies around, very sporadic but amazing.

Snowing again here at Kalkite, but not settling. BOM said 1000 mtrs, we are at 930. Pretty good effort there.
Going into Jindy for dinner so will update the amounts of snow later.

WS at Jindabyne showing 0.7c, so should be good for some more snow if there's moisture, Homer. Have to say that i was not expecting a -5 at top station!

Just came back from getting the papers at East Jindabyne. There is a nice settling everywhere above about 1050-1100 asl. Obviously the higher I drove the thicker it got. It was still snowing as well, down to about 1100 asl. Temp was 1 degree. Just about every high hill in every direction has a light dusting of snow on it - I'd guess 1-3 cm's, although there is the odd one where the snow looks thicker. Currently 3 degrees here at Kalkite.
Homer Photos and video later.
