http://www.news.com.au/national/snow-hai...r-1226322174002 Snow down there somewhere too Things.

It's cool here in the early hours also which makes me wonder why one of our "selef-proclaimed" experts was banging on about a westward moving TC until a couple of days ago. Cool air up this way means dry air! Not exactly favourable for a TC which EC was late to pick up on.

Meanwhile now that there is a large high down south the trade winds will kick in a solid shove of showers locally over the next week or so. With virtually every model on board for a strong high it will happen.

I hope so rookie, things have dried out considerably since our last rain a fortnight ago. Back to hand watering the garden, I'd forgotten how time consuming it is.

Yeah, snowing at Falls Ck which is about 100km from here. Snow above 800 metres. No snow for me here, but forecast 3C tonight, so some frost around in the morning!

It's nights like these that make Cairns autumn nights awesome smile Not hot, not freezing, juuusstt right. If it's 3C here now and only in autumn, winter is going to be a shocker!

Was hoping to get into a course or something, but got down here a bit late to start first semester. Looking at possibly jumping into something mid year maybe. Just cruising doing some occasional business on the internet when I need money for something smile

A nice little upgrade in our forecast particularly for Thursday with moderate to heavy falls forecast as the trough in the Coral Sea moves west in timely fashion with a very large high in the Tasman.

Forecast for Thursday
The high will move into New South Wales and will maintain a firm ridge along the east coast. So isolated showers will continue along most of the coast tending to rain at times with some moderate to heavy falls about the North Tropical Coast. Fine and mostly cool conditions elsewhere. Winds will be moderate to fresh SE, tending fresh to strong at times about the coast between about Cooktown and Fraser Island. Temperatures remaining below average over most of the interior. The upper level low is expected to move into central Australia with increasing high cloud near the western Queensland border.

Just checked the guage and have recorded 24mm so far today. Most of that this evening. I was getting worried that I would be spending the weekend watering the garden. Ahhhh, not any more :-)

2mm in the guage at Malanda, some showers coming through at the moment. Will check in the morning before I head Innisfail way.
Wind has not stopped here since lunchtime, doesn't help living on top of a valley.

Just drove back from Port. Leaf litter and small branches on the road. 30 knot gusts prior to leaving Port. Water sheeting on parts of the road.

A further upgrade to our forecast (nth tropical coast and tablelands) with heavy falls forecast for 3 more days instead of one.

Some very strong squalls around Comport St arund midnight.

The trough in the coral sea will still be heading our way on Saturday so it is very slow moving. RAIN!!!

70mm over night with plenty of wind gusts to keep the curtains blowing and even had me grabbing the blankets!!! Awesome night of rain when I thought we had seen it all. A few more days of this would be very welcome!

Total overnight to 7am = 78mm here. I do love it when rains are bigger than expected.
