Some friends were having a BBQ this afternoon, started at 4pm, guess the sausages were swimming off the plate. Looks like it was heavy stuff, black bits and all on the radar.

It was quite brilliant to watch at the end, full rainbow with a second trying to begin, the hail illuminated by sun. Thats the part I like most about storms.

Id say just from an estimate (it melted upon impact) 2cm. So considering it was a black core we were fairly lucky there.

Just got pummelled here. Horizontal rain, downdraft (?) lightning bolts and, considering I'm on top of a hill, had rivers of water coming and going from 'nowhere'. The creeks/roads have got to be going like the clappers/flooding around us atm. Same here! We got smashed as well, my heaviest downpour since December 10th last year! Not sure at this stage how much rain has been collected in my gauge, upwards of 20mm I'd say (rainfall rate peaked at 97.8mm/hr), blocked gutters, blustery winds, and some insane lightning!

Can't really make that call purely from an updraft photo ;), its possible, though the dominant mode of the day remained multicellular there was the odd supercell (a split occured on that frame grab with a left and right mover, the left up near Beechworth). That return you see is unlikely to be a mesocyclonic return of a supercell but rather a downburst, with the broad scale doppler interface, especially given the reflectivity associated. Either way, a few frustrating lightning storms up here at Dederang...got a few teasing bolts and amazing activity which died when it moved into the viewing arcs I had available. Oh well...less than a month until real storms .
