Hi all,
Thought I'd get in early and create our Dry season thread, meteorologically speaking the dry season does start in only a bit over 7 hours.

Looking forward to sunny days and cold cold mornings, hopefully with a few frosts and a few rainy cold days with low maximums grin

Great summary PV! grin

29.6mm of rain over 10 days for April 2012 here in Beaconsfield.

I’m also looking forward to some cold mornings and cool cloudy days. Hopefully the ‘Dry’ season isn’t too dry!

Had 16.1mm over the weekend, 3.1mm to midnight yesterday.
April total 43.7mm, YTD 1510.6mm. It's just started raining, quite heavily too, but I don't expect it to last long.

What a wonderful, damp start to the dry season, laugh 9.8mm yesterday to midnight & more rain this morning. Loving it!

Congratulations to Big John on being voted in as a Councillor in Prossie!

Many thanks nthqlndr, Have not been on lately as have been fairly busy. Which is an understatement, when compared to the job in front of me over the next four years. Oh well, only six months to the wet season.By the time November comes around,I think we all will be hanging out for the wet.

April was my third lowest rainfall month in my years of recording. Only got to 57.7mm. Lowest was 29.8mm in 1995 and 39mm in 2008. Not much else to talk about in April. Generally mild and fine. May's average temp should drop around 5C, according to what happened last year on my staton.

Good to hear from you again bigjohn - big congratulations on your council win. Anyone with a keen interest in weather got the votes from our house-hold. smile

Congrats bigjohn, great to see your election win, hope you can find time in your busy schedule to join us at the meet in a couple of weeks.

Ended up with 43.3mm spread over 6 days in April and a mere 0.5mm so far for May with not much on the immediate horizon.

Dreading the cold and boring weather over the dry season frown ..can't wait for storm season later in the year.

Just read through my post from last night again and all those records I was talking about was just from previous Aprils, not of all months, just in case there was any confusion. FYI, I have recorded plenty of 0.0mm months over the yeays sadly enough. I'd prefer much more regular rainfall but not to be.

Another rather fine perfect (boring!) day in the Whitsundays today. Oh, I hope there's an upper low going to spring up out of nowhere in north Queensland soon. :|

Wish the dew points would drop below 15 deg here and humidity drop. Having said that, can't feel it with SE winds blowing all the time.

Weatherzone thinks humidity will still stay high in Yeppoon for the next 7 days 15 deg dew point 54 pc humidity

Got that off of the Weather Underground Wundermap, looking at Eton.

Also, don't forget tomorrow night is Peter Byrne's LAST weather report on WIN News, will be a great shame to see him go frown
Unfortunately the decision to leave is not one he wanted to take from what I've heard.

Morning all, a cool morning out here in the bush at the moment, with a minimum temperature of just 8 degrees recorded by myself here in Barcaldine, will be interesting to see how well that compares to the Barcaldine PO site. Currently 14'C with about 50% humidity.

Here's a picture I took not long ago of the BOM - Barcaldine Post Office (036007) Manual Weather Station.

The rain gauge can be seen on the ground in the background. Interestingly enough, there is no equipment near the station to measure wind speed or direction, just the stevenson screen and the rain gauge. Despite the fact that the station reports Wind Speed and Direction to the BOM.
P.S: There is a fence between me and the station (It was about 2 metres infront of me)

I've just recently set up what I've called the "Forecast and Observation Archives" on my webpage. Basically, what it does is keeps an archive copy of the daily forecasts and model outputs, as well as weekly rainfall bulletins for the local area on my website. The process is completely automatic, so I don't have to remember to do anything everyday.
