Thought I would start this thread with a sunset and a bit of lightning we had here in Adelaide the other night. I think sunsets are posted here yeah?

This sunset was interesting in that a thick wall of smoke originating from Victoria was shrouding the plains, yet in the hills the air was completely clear. Let to some amazing reds well after sunset.

Cheers Markus

Luckily it was only a "mini-tornado" laugh

Looks at least an F1 by those pics, maybe even approaching F2. Thanks for sharing.

Autumn on the Murrumbidgee River, her tributaries and lagoons.

Flooded Ginninderra Creek. Normally, this creek at the bottom of our street in the NW of the ACT is a few steps wide. Not the 80-100 metres that it is, in these two images..

The confluence of the Murrumbidgee River and Molonglo River below the escarpment of Woodstock Nature Reserve. Sturt Island ... is again an island.

Callitris, rain, rock and river ... again from Woodstock NR. It was here that the Canberra fire storm (Jan.2004) nearly wiped out the last remaining stand of native Blue and Black Cypress growing in association, in the ACT.

Then the rain stopped and the river dropped several metres over the next few days ... as the giant flow raced towards Wagga Wagga. At this stage Burrinjuck Dam had started to spill water.

Warren.

PS, if you haven't seen Ginninderra Creek in flood, just as it enters the Murrumbidgee, it is most spectacular ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FsydV2_B52o

At the start of March, I spent time exploring the floodplain and lagoons north of Wagga Wagga, the weather was warm and clear and with no indication of what was to come (that I was aware of) within two weeks.

River Red Gums, in the late afternoon glow, near Eunony Lagoon.

Two weeks later in the same area.

The river peaked at 10.6 m(?)and the levee protecting the city, unfortunately not for North Wagga is 10.7m(?)

Early twilight Eunony Lagoon.

River mist.

Warren.

What sort of car do you drive Warren? I think I might have seen you taking the photos of Nth Wagga floodplain and Dukes Creek?

bigwilly, G'day. It very likely that you saw me. I've spent quite a few days in Wagga Wagga this Autumn looking at the lagoons and river.

I could have been in a white Commodore station wagon that I rented for a couple of days or in a copper or red coloured Astra driving around the uni. I spend a fair bit of time exploring the Murrumbidgee on my bike. If you see this thing wandering around the floodplains, that's me ... http://s225.photobucket.com/albums/dd301/WildWassa/?action=view¤t=OnGlenrock.jpg do stop and say Hello.

Warren.

Few pics from the Victorian storms this evening. Lightning was minimal, but was treated to a pretty nice shelf cloud.

Taken at Rye beach on the Mornington Peninsula.

A decent surf developed yesterday due to the persistent E/NE'ly flow toward the coast over the past few days. Taken yesterday afternoon around 4:30pm as the showers/rain began to clear, looking north from near Trial Bay Gaol at South West Rocks:

It was a foggy morning on the Murrumbidgee today, in the NW of the ACT. The fog stayed until late morning. The fog lifted off the river and then it dropped to the water level several times during the morning.

Anyway, that wasn't the reason why I posted. I'm posting to show how stunning the river looks after the flooding.

Normally, in the past, I'd sink into the silt in the river, maybe as much as 40cm but after the scouring of the flood, the silt has gone, washed river gravel and exposed rock now dominates the bed and banks ... and the Silver Perch have a sandy bottom to breed and lay their eggs on, again.

Since I've been visiting this site, I think that I've gained a greater appreciation for what the weather means to the environment.

Warren.

Those photos of the Murrumbidgee look fantastic, especially with the native conifers (cypress pines) in frame, it could easily pass off for somewhere in Europe.
