Hello All:

7:20PM Monday--Just looked at Doppler Radar and there are 3 (yes 3), Tornado Warned cells that are heading towards Wichita, Kansas. I'm sure the Storm Chasers are on these cells & it'll be interesting to see the reports/pics.

Hope the Chasers (& Everyone Else) Stays Safe~~~Wet Snow

Folks:

As per US Weather Channel (9:15PM Monday): Doppler Radar estimates hail upwards of 3.5" in size falling from severe cells just to the N of Memphis & Dotson, TX. WoW!

Hi, we arrived in Denver yesterday afternoon. Got up this morning after not enough sleep and drove to Sioux City Iowa, its currently 11pm Tuesday and quite the lightning show to our SE and E. Our room is facing E and we are upstairs so just filmed a bit and enjoying it. As for the day itself Nebraska did not really go till after dark (except for the north)so we didnt see anything till just on and after dark.

Out of desparation I took these shots in NE Nebraska of one of the developing cells I am now enjoying just as it got dark. Shouldnt have 1000km drive to "catch up" tomorrow..

Well its pretty quiet old day in W Iowa, bloody humid, cap pretty strong (uppers have warmed during the day), its 645pm so still plenty of light but we only have crapvection as the locals call it, some of the softest cu you'd ever see. Might be another after dark light show..

Hey guys,

We're in Alburquerque this morning and will be in OKC tonight. Very pretty around these parts - coming into ABQ last night from the west on the I-40 was just stunning with a vista of city lights going from 1800m to 1500m.

Nice pics Ruckle!! Hope to see more.

Looks like a ridge will slowly come into play over the great plains, I personally do not like this heat so early in the season. A cut-off low would be conducive for severe storms over west Texas and southeast NM.

There are a lot of local news channels people will turn to for severe weather information.

Another shocker of a day model wise. Weather channel spent the day in SE Nebraska and saw nothing we saw Reed in NC Kansas and eastern Iowa exploded. Hard to find anything "easy" again. We did better than yesterday finding a group of 3 storms north of Grand Island Nebraska before sunset. A couple of them had STW's at various stages in their cycle. Nothing to outrageous for these parts but it was a sensational evening in central Nebraska on the back roads with farmers out plowing etc and light warm humid winds.

A few snaps I took while enjoying the scenes.

Interesting day today, we spent the mid part of the afternoon NE of O'Neill Nebraska on dirt roads. This storm was severe warned and did have a meso signature on radar. A view of the storm

The boundary then sagged southward and after 4pm a new line of storms popped up. Towers were pretty powerful looking

One of the cells had an interesting structure under it

The end of this complex

Been in Columbus Nebraska the last few hours watching an epic light show up to the north. Good fun!

Well I've kept it quiet this long so it's time to let you all know! This time tomorrow myself and two of my good friends ( MB and Roddy) will be en route to Tornado Alley, USA for 3 weeks. Can't wait to see some beastly US style supercells ripping across the Great Plains....and maybe a 'nader or two won't go astray!! Will try and keep y'all updated whilst over there, time permitting. T minus 24hrs and counting......

Wow, amazing news - very jealous and wishing you all the best. You guys are great chasers so look forward very much to seeing what you snare while you are over there. All actions seems to be much further N than usual for this time of year over there right no. Guess it will pull back S at some point before beginning its slow move n'ward as the season progresses.

Keep the updates and pics coming guys so i can live through you guys next few weeks smile

Ruckle LOVING the everyday updates and Pics keep them coming this goes for all of you

Looking nice today, still could be a bit messy but get on early they will be good. Over 5000 cape there will be huge.
Some huge Hailers 10cm+ will be about today. Need just bit more shear but still good looking day. maybe a capenado or to with huge thermo overtaking shear issues if lucky.

Sadly today best for next few days, no real major troughing coming up this week though signs mid late next week could be good.

Next 2 days on front triple point should be ok

Good luck

DReaming of been there only a year and i should be there

Nice setup for today in USA, some healthy shear and forcing available with a triple point setup. Not a beastly outbreak but it's almost worth a mod risk for mine with a few decent tornadoes quite possible. Huge hail a threat also. Very late so not writing up much but target is around OSMOND NE

TS cool

Hey guys,

Jacci and I chased southern OK / Red River region yesterday and intercepted a right-moving supercell which had a nice bell-shaped elevated wall cloud accociated with it. Baseball sized hail was recorded with this storm but luckily we only got pelted with marble-sized hail.

We have done the long haul up to northeastern Nebraska and the Cu field sits to our north. The temp/dp here is 32/18 coming up to Albion, NE. The RAP model (supercedes the RUC) isn't picking the farther S-than-expected boundary layer up well into NE Neb as cloud from this morning's storms remains right across SD. The DP in Sioux Falls, SD where there is much better helicity is just 57F (14C).

Game on today! Cu field starting to show a lot more beef.

Not a bad target TS - we will rest and sit tight in Neligh, NE.

Here's a current screen grab of GRlevel2 with vis sat. (Click to enlarge)

Summing up today so far...

I think Jane and Clyve are scoring a lot better than everyone else so far on the WY/Neb. border!!

It was slow but it's up now, albeit further west so some re-adjustment of the target would have been needed but at least it is west than east which would have been difficult.

Still a tornado watch for that band, moving into slightly more favourable shear but now it will be in darkness.

TS cool

Pretty big bust today. Sat around in NE Nebraska (after a wonderful spark fest in Columbus NE last night), got a good tan, spent hours at rt 20 and 14 junction near Brunswick. After an hour and a half we were joined by 9 or 10 cars, tours etc. Did see one of the other tour groups head of further to the NE around 4pm - not sure what they were doing!!! Anyway we were right on the southeast side of surface boundary. Absolutely nothing happened, would have been great if it did. When the wind went to the north we headed a little south but realised we were heading into higher 850 temps. By this time 5 or more hours had passed, it was after 7. We headed back to the NW,could see a mammoth cell up in South Dakota near sunset and watched the current line grow along, I think, the 850hpa boundary? Anyway it disappeared under northerly cold fog and stratus as we approached O'Neill. We grabbed Maccas and then headed west, filmed an amazing flickery light show through the fog and are now enjoying the deluge from a room in O'Neill.

Pretty disappointed with the day but sometimes thats just how it is..(and what I am watching out the window now is just brilliant)

A couple of snaps from the Red River Supercell yesterday 5th May 2012. OK / TX Border..

Today was a major bust around NE Nebraska, we positioned ourselves near Neligh and waited for initiation... Then waited some more until the cu field simply disappeared!! laugh

Some nice cells out to the west, including the one that Jane was on to and there was a nice bit of flash and bang after dark but all embedded behind fog and junk cloud.. not a real productive day.
It's all good though, the busts will make the productive days all the much more rewarding. smile
