Wow, nice temps on the tablelands. 6 deg in Campbelltown also but milder on the coast, there was a decent westerly draft this AM which kept temps just above 10 here. With this big fat high sitting over us next week I'd expect more frosts with large diurnal ranges. This seems like the classic autumn 'calm before the storm'.

We definitely have a series of frosty nights coming our way. Instead of letting the fire burn out around midnight - will be keeping it going overnight this weekend for sure.

Bathurst Ag station was only -2.6 and grass rounded -6, airport -2.7.
Canberra airport -2.8, but they also had a rounded grass -10 which I must say I find a little hard to believe.

Keeping the fire going at over-night is only something I do maybe 1/2 dozen times in the whole winter and almost exclusively only when it snows. If its too warm at night it ruins my sleep anyway so seems a bit of a waste.

Yes SB, the lull before the storm, should be another cold change soon enough, models looking interesting.

Hi all - just a couple more shots from the coastal storm the other evening - Too bad you didn't head down to the beach Marts and O.T. pretty amazing display of clear air CG's and i missed a lot!- I was pretty wreaked the next day though smile ...

Looks like there might be some decent size swell later this weekend for anyone interested! - beautiful day in the city today if a little chilly the morning...

CG's and a Pipe 03 - Offshore Storm 2/5/2012 by sixdegreesbelowthehorizon

I thought id point out the lowering on the second picture which looked like a waterspout forming in the dark - im not so sure now i look back at the photos - an inflow feature perhaps?

Edit Reason: waterspout??

Looks like a low will be spinning off the coast over the next few days, charts aren't expecting it to impact land but may still be interesting. Might whip up the sea at least, or give us some more off-shore shows!

It sounded to me that Peter was hinting at a cold outbreak somewhere down the track.

For the last few days the models have had the Tasman low spinning up over the weekend. The swell forecasts have been reflecting this. I haven't checked today but there was meant to be a large increase in swell on Saturday.

In keeping with the weather in Sydney this year, we just can't manage a perfectly cloudless day at all. It got a bit grey and gloomy in the city for a while this morning. Seems to be improving now.

BOM reckons CBR airport got -2.8 last night. I did have a frost, but this morning only the Zucchini leaves were suffering, they were liquidising. Most nasturtiums seemed OK but the ones trailing onto the grass were very unhappy. Winter tomatoes OK but I fear for their futures.

Classic autumn morning, bright clear sun to melt the windscreens.

Very flat sunny weather forecast for us and the south coast for the next 7 days... is there anything weather-like likely to hit the coast next week? I was thinking of getting-at the low-20s in the Ulladulla forecast for Tues/Wed/Thurs.
Edit: a Tasman low? bugger.

Edit Reason: inconvenient tasman low

Geez, Tasmania is having a rough trot.
They've currently got that low just off the north coast which will slowly dissipate, but then the low that forms off NSW over the weekend heads southwards over them. It almost looks cyclonic.

Ended up with -2.4C just after the sun was up, Tuggers officially -2.6C so not too different. You could tell last night was going to be a cold one when I left Kingston last night, already dew on the car & a definite chill to the air, car was only showing 4C at that stage but it seemed colder than that.

PD I keep the bedroom areas closed off from the heating - we like cool air to sleep too. We just heat the living areas mostly - unless we have visitors then we try to get more warmth into their bedrooms, otherwise they sook too much. smile

Models about 7 to 8 days out are showing some unusual sort of features with 540 line being held to the south in a big flat line (last time I looked). I suspect it may actually push through instead or at least form another cutoff low. that's where my thought processes are - you looking at the same things PD?

Just found this neat little map of the Warragamba Catchment that the host of Kirrawee Weather has done up:

http://www.kirrawee.net/weather/dam.htm

Really hammers home that it's not the coastal rain events that matter- they are only good for watering the gardens of the North Shore and Eastern Suburbs bourgeoisie.

There are a few things happening Homer, a few various signs. I think models will be converging on another cold change of sorts at the end of next week, some agreement slowly building. But even if this does not work out there seem to be lots of opportunities, Blizz noted this before with the frequency of ECL's popping up in the bight and SE Aus. As the ECL's form they often move south and merge with the westerly's amplifying the LWT and allowing a front to follow in its foot steps, which is what is happening with the current one moving south over Tasmania.

Another decent frost here tonight too, also often a run of fine weather with frost precedes a change.

Around -2 in Bathurst. You had a good one there Duksta smile

PD - i think next weekend is looking quite hopeful. AXS is nuts but I like it, GFS a bit tamer but good, EC not quite sure yet but halfway there. I think it's a fair chance we will have quite a cold change next Sunday 'ish.

SB - spot on that coastal stuff always fools people re the dam, also the coastal rain often really is QUITE coastal - sticking within a very few km of the coastline. Western Sydney is noticeably drier than the beachey suburbs. The dam catchmentshave large areas more aligned with our rain in some aspects, obviously less so for the Sthn Highlands areas.
