Not a cloud in the sky today. Things are drying out quick... they better get this fire season underway soon or it's going to set us up for the worst wildfires come August-October! Same down here. I hope that the fires won't be too bad. Someone managed to set fire to my neighbours back paddock in the middle of night this year. It was just lucky for us that it was drizzly rain that night that stopped it getting much of a hold. Still burnt out half his back paddock though.

Insurer won't offer new policies for two Qld towns Monday May 7, 2012 - 07:25 EST
Flooded house at Roma in February, 2012. -
Queensland's biggest insurer Suncorp will no longer offer new policies in two regional towns until flood mitigation works are carried out.
Roma, in southern inland Queensland, and Emerald in the state's central region, have been devastated by major flooding in recent years.
The insurer says it has paid out $150 million in claims from residents.
Suncorp spokesman Jason McCracken says no new policies will be offered until levees are built.
"We're trying to encourage local government, State Government, to start taking some action - I think the time for talking is over," he said.
"We're keen to see something happen before we head into this storm season later in the year.
"We certainly don't want our policy holders and the rest of the country - the rest of Queenslanders - to be funding a situation when flood mitigation can be taking place."
However, Central Highlands Mayor Peter Maguire says the council has written to Suncorp asking them to reverse its decision.
He says recent floods show not all of Emerald is at risk.
"Where we are developing the town on the eastern side of the town, the great 99 per cent of the land over that side does not flood," he said.
"We'd like to get them to relook at the whole process."
Meanwhile, Maranoa Mayor Robert Loughnan says the decision is an insult to Roma residents.
"Very, very disappointed in that outcome at this stage, because as the biggest insurance company, there's no doubt a couple of the others will follow suit - so very disappointed," he said.
-ABC (Off Weatherzone website) Hmm .. is there any comment from the poster who posted this, or how it is relevant to central Qld dry season (the Roma event particularly)?? um...you do realise involves EMERALD and ROMA? Seeing as this is the CQ thread, I would assume its been posted in the correct area.

-ABC (Off Weatherzone website) Obviously, not everyone feels the same way as I do, but I think this is the lowest of low acts. We were not covered for flood when our house was flooded. We were ineligible for nearly every government hand out. The whole process has cost us in excess of $100,000. I cant even begin to give you a figure on the emotional toll the flood has taken. When Suncorp lifted their embargo on the town, we promptly changed to them. In our eyes, anyone who was with Suncorp was was well and truely taken care of. I was at many times jealous of those around us, who were picking out their new kitchens, no expense spared - when we were trying desperately to get enough money together to get the simple things needed, like gyprock. I felt so comfortable coming into the 2012 wet season knowing we were properly covered. Now, I feel like we are back in that place we were post flood. No one will buy a house in a flood zone if they cant get insurance and soon those, like us, living in a flood zone wont be able to afford insurance through Suncorp. The whole thing just stinks for so many people!

Well said Kymm. I totally agree. Suncorp is not the only insurance company who has an embargo on our area either. In both the 2008 and 2011 flood we were not impacted by flood waters, but I have watched our insurance premiums go up and up here in Emerald, and I would say there are many people like us who have had the same thing happen. Emerald has not flooded like this in decades, perhaps 5 or more. Companies as old as Suncorp would have reaped lots of money out of communities like ours. I think it's disgusting and the fact that our premiums may now increase ten fold stinks even more. We may go another 10-15 years without a flood happening again, so what of all the money they will make out of premiums in this time if that happens. Suncorp will become a dirty word in Emerald and rightly so. IMO I am not sure if it's even feasible for a levy of some type to be built to protect Emerald from flooding, as water seems to seep in from different ways when it floods. I also feel sorry for anyone building new homes or moving to Emerald and purchasing a home, how can these people get affordable insurance, especially if they live in an area that does not flood. How can they protect their house from fire, theft etc if they can't even get insurance. If you look on a map of Emerald my house sits in the zone that flooded, yet my house did not flood, so how could we sell this house if the bank lender looks at a map and says this house floods. How could someone get insurance for this house? I have put this out to other friends but what about a community run insurance scheme to help families in Emerald to get coverage?

Rainy Night...... What's the issue? Who cares if it's the dry season or the wet season thread. This is going to impact Central Qld families as much as the flood itself and Vinnie has every right to post this information on here for us to discuss. I't not like anything else is happening....

Well first time I have been back to our thread since last week. We had a lovely time camping under the supermoon and froze slightly as well. But as seems to be our curse at camping these days all good things came to a very abrupt end when i fell over a tent rope and broke my wrtist in 3 places on sunday night. Just got back from rocky yesterday after having surgery on it!

OMG Kaz!! You made sure you broke it properly... 3 places! Get well soon mate. Camping under the supermoon was awesome in Barcy. Tried to take photos but without long lense you just can't do them justice.

Humidity is slowly starting to drop now. 14 deg this morning maxed out at 25 deg. Rocky up to 29 deg.
Looking forward to 22 deg or 23 deg every day next week.
