This is the fire burning out of control in the Wirrabara Forest, Southern Flinders. A controlled burn off that got away. Sparsley populated but very rough terrain makes it awkward to contain. There were at least two water bombers helping out.A flukey shower of rain might be just whats needed!

When I last looked at the wz tracker yesterday evening maybe about 830pm I don't recall the time, there was one source of lightning - just off the west coast of central yorke peninsula. Now at 410am there are three sources - a storm just west of Whyalla so our colleages at Whyalla should be hearing thunder, and the two other sources are a lot further north-west of Whyalla.

I like your photos there Lord Gladstone, particularly the spread of smoke in the sky smile Pity that smoke is ash of vegetation and little animals that weren't in the planned control burn.

Current SA forecast issued at 5:30 am CST on Wednesday 9 May 2012:
"Forecast for the rest of Wednesday Isolated showers over the southern agricultural area and possible isolated thunderstorms near southern coasts. Isolated early fog about the agricultural area and far south of the Northwest Pastoral. Milder with moderate to fresh westerly winds shifting southwesterly and moderating from the west."
No mention of the showers and storms currently stretching north-west from near Whyalla.
Hugh?? Strange. I suppose the forecaster thinks the showers and storms will dissipate soon?

Looks like those isolated thunderstorms might be forming up now. Too bad they're not heading our way...

I was expecting a rainy day today frown hopefully cop a shower or two later on.

345pm I can see a weak front just reached the toe of York Peninsula, that might bring a few showers through the central districts later today, and also looks like isolated pre-frontal light showers around. I'll guess there won't be any storms north of the south-east but could be wrong Chris - hope I am smile

Nice line of storms firing on front way below SA at moment! Tip may clip SE coasts, more likely to affect VIC coasts and Tassie!

Good to see you're up at this obscure hour of the morning Sarah so you can cram some extra study in smile
or are we practicing our darts? poke
Yes a raggedy band or flotilla of showers is currently crossing the greater gaa but I doubt it will go much further inland and I think Roves is going to be bored with the weather for some time to come. Can't see any signs of a substantial rain for the next ten days on Access and Gfs except maybe the coastal districts and southern ranges could catch a few more useful showers. Maybe the yabbies will be biting wink

Yea Unstable cant see any rain in the near future, I cant wait to get this seeding out the way which is now a dry seeding very frustrating just hope im doing the right thing but anyway back to the yabbies there are a few around stlthough nothing like the numbers of last flood though as the water level drops back the numbers will pick up hopefully I will be finished seeding by then in a months time.

Ahh - sorry to hear you have problems with insomnia Sarah frown
I hope you're not feeling really tired during the days and the insomnia fades away soon smile

I notice on the radar some local drizzle or shower activity in both gulfs at present. There are times I'd really like to be out there on a boat (a very stable one) or a floating island towed around by a tug to see what is actually going on weatherwise.

Thankyou it's hard as I'm in bed by 1-3am and I just lay there and yeah lol. Some days I'm tired just depends on the night.

0.5mm here for that event.
