Great to see some of the autumn colour back again! It kinda makes the heart a little warmer i reckon!

Hey Core Puncher, i ended up going to Leura Cascades on Saturday morning before the ASWA meeting. I'd like to go back to the same spot again when the light is more diffused with perhaps fog or overcast. I ended up losing a cheap timer remote somewhere in the stream, but i'm not too fussed. I did get some shots before the light was too contrasty though, this being the best of a bunch:

Yesterday i got up early and met up with some of the weather crew who stayed in town - Grant, Michael & Nathan. We got lucky at the Three Sister's vantage location at Echo Point with some nice cirrus cloud lighting up things nicely.

Both those shots are gorgeous Greg! well done...The casdades one was that taken about half way down the main trail to the bottom lookout in the cave? pretty sure ive got a few shots from the same spot. Yeah its definately hard regarding the light levels, be nice if it were a little more treed over. I went there late in the evening around so the sun had dropped a tad. But definately a spot for a overcast day, keep me posted if you plan another trip there..i'll sacrifice a leg if need be to hobble down there for another shoot.

Where the main carpark is basically. You just walk up to the lower level. The rocks being slippery, and my recovering knee meant that i was pretty limited in terms of exploring the falls further. However i thought that the lower area provided more warmer tones for foreground interest anyway. I think Michael's images capture this beautifully as well.

Giant River Red Gum and the old railway viaduct over the Murrumbidgee River at Gundagai. Rain has softened the background. It felt like being on a movie set.

I love the autumn theme coldsnap! dont have any Deciduous trees in my small town so dont get the whole Autumn experience lol
and Greg those two are awesome especially like the valley with the fog!
yesterday while driving home from work, the sun was going down and I was thinking that these clouds will look awesome when the sun gets lower, I had a bit of an idea to get a silhouette of an old Red Gum against the sunset, but in doing so thought I would do a few HDRs as well, lucky I did, a little bit of post processing and came up with this

Wonderful contrast in the last two pics posted - both so different but both magnificent.

Earlier this year i was camping down the new coast at Mystery Bay and tried my luck on sunrise - the second morning being the best. All shot with 17mm TSE, 3 stop Grad ND filter, around f16, iso 50, on a tripod & cable release.

NIce work Greg, the Grad ND filter works wonders on this kind of work doesnt it?
I cant wail till I can afford one, and get some more holidays next year to get back to the beach and do this kind of thing again.

Hey SF,

yes grad ND filters are perfect for seascapes, and landscapes in general. There'll almost always be a difference in the dynamic range between sky and foreground, and it can be addressed either 2 ways - take 2 exposures - one for the sky and one for the foreground OR use a filter to take the scene in one exposure. The benefits going down this path is 3 fold, one being that it really helps lift the colour of the sky should there be any colour, and secondly it saves time in post production..... i'm usually time poor any way. And lastly, it slows down the light coming into the lens as the sky is usually the brightest, which helps get the water motion effect.

They range in price, but you should do some research into Cokin, Lee and SingRay (which i use). Use Cokin filter holders because they are cheaper.

The autumn foliage photos people have been posting here look awesome!

I thought I'd post a few myself. These were taken around SE QLD on Wed except for the Japanese Gardens one (2007). You'll have to excuse the quality of the pics - I'm not a dedicated photographer.

Oh and although not taken in 2012, thought I'd share some winter photos I took back in 2007 since it's almost winter anyway smile
Once again, you'll have to excuse the quality of the pics - I took these with my phonecamera (Motorola RAZR V6).

It was 5C when I took most of these photos on a foggy morning at the Japanese Gardens in Toowoomba:

Big fog banks were alternating with blue skies and racing across one after the other over Toowoomba around this time:

Driving down into a big layer of fog in a valley near Plainlands:
