The season is set by the BoM, not by a 3rd year university student as Boomer says.
The only month that a cyclone hasn't formed in the AOR is September (as I posted earlier this year). Maybe the conditions for a cyclone or cyclogensis wasn't present for the entire season but to call it over 2 months early is just plain silly. I said on several occasions that it was dead, but I never said a cyclone couldn't form before the 'offical' season was over.

The season has been a bust for Queensland and will go down in history as one of the quietest for us on record.

Bit of a mixed set in the CS... models show some low potential between the tail of the Solomons and Vanuatu with some lower associated stuff in the CS.
Reckon rains a coming for the Far North as a low makes its presence felt (albeit from a distance).
We also won't mention the suspected associated low off the lower Queensland Coast.

Could do with 30 to 50mm Boomer. Brownsville is dying off as I type and bush fires have started to spring up from the overly bored population that isn't otherwise engaged with stealing cars.

I would love a little something, something to spin up off the coast just to bring a bit oif excitement back into the forums. By my records I have 31 cyclones formed in the AOR in May, hope we can make it 32 wink

Starting to look decidedly lowish in the NE CS ... and around the Cape ... seems to be quite a bit of vorticity. Looks like Townsville may be in for some decent downpours midweek and GFS is starting to get decidedly bullish for some serious rain (as discussed earlier) on the SEQ coast late in the week.

And how does this have anything to do with the potential of an upcoming tropical cyclone (which the chances of that happening are now virtually nil).

Agree on the virtually nil Mega. But what it does indicate is actual death throes of the season. A weak MJO and the writhing remains of what is part of (technically) a monsoonal trough, the elements of which are set to cross the equator (in regard to the CS comments). The latter is merely me posting my rank amateurish observations on an overall picture of the QLD coast over the next week or so... there is nowhere else where an overarching opinion can be posted short of jumping into every region WZ wise.
I hope that answers your question.

That is well an truly over. It's pretty safe to say. Hurry up November. I agree with Boomer though most people gave up on the season near March but it was'nt over. Maybe could get an earlier start end of year. Must admit though its been a laugh a minute in this thread I don't even care if there was'nt cyclones in was good to hear everyones opinions.

Goodness fellows, have you seen the latest Access-G (00Z) It looks suspiciously like a TC to me . Borderline sea surface temps would give it tropical characteristics; however, as it ventures south (if that is its track) it would definitely take on hybrid qualities. Very interesting for this time of year in any case - a long shot though.

As it drops further south the chances increase that it will indeed become an ECL and not a cyclone.

Nice pick up by Boomer too guys.

I'd be thinking further north and looking at where the inland low will be. But then again I could be wrong (this is not unheard of).

Think it will develop around Hervey Bay that area has been getting all the action. EC has it moving away from the Coast though like ENE.

Looks like that East Coast low is going to punch out south of the QLD border (yes I know... it's not the CS but where else to post this kind of thing?). Meanwhile we do have a bit of a trough forming as we speak over northern QLD... another 100mm expected in a cool May.
