I'm amazed at how frosty May has been - Ron that would have been a sight to see. The NT's really going to come into that really chilly time of the year for nights now.

Like PD waiting for the Ag Station reading to come in. It would have been even colder on the river flats.

It's definitely colder this morning my toes are cold and the heater is struggling. smile

Yup, I bet there's no nasturtiums left on the NTs! That's severe. Mine are still struggling along, although plenty of evidence of frost-burnt leaves on the tops. Every day there's a bit more damage to frost-tender things, the little tomatoes look awful, and the final zucchini is headed for the compost. Pretty sure there was no frost last night though, and this morning was actually rather nice.

Very cold overnight here in Goulburn, falling to -5.3ºC. Went to Canberra today, it was a cool, calm and sunny morning. By around morning tea, it was mild and the wind was light. The perfect conditions for walking about different parts of the city. Cloud increased a little in the afternoon, and became partly cloudy at times. You wouldn't have guessed it was only about 14-15 degrees in the afternoon, thanks to the light wind and decent periods of sunshine. Driving back to Goulburn, it came over mostly cloudy about the Hume/Federal interchange. The cloudier skies meant it felt a little bit cool in Goulburn late this afternoon. BOM is going for -3ºC tonight, but I wouldn't be surprised if it dropped to -5ºC again.
Little holiday is over, driving back to South West Rocks tomorrow. smile

Still awaiting the official o/n temp for Bx but whatever it ends up, our May mtd overnight avge should become a NEGATIVE number and it will struggle to get positive again for at least a week. We are colder in this May (overnight) than we would normally be in July (on July average) July avg is about +0.2 we are currently at mtd of zero and soon negative.

Been chilly on the toes. smile

Ron how's your mtd average for nights? Must be a fresh number.

Armidale had its coldest morning so far this year.
Min was -5.8C at the city weather station.
We even beat Glen Innes airport (-4.4C) which is unusual.
Thanks for keeping up us to date with Walcha's minimums, Ron.

Canberra was -3, but I saw no evidence of any frost at my place, there was a bit of a southerly blowing all night which is probably why. It didn't feel as cold as recent nights.

I can tell you there was a nice frost here in Tuggers, mind "only" -2.2C on my gauge and this cloud cover if it hangs around will keep the max down. Currently 12.2C.
Cheers Teddy

Yeah, the cloud is making things very dull. It was rather mild and pleasant out my way early this morning! Didn't have that bitter chill in the air.

About -2 again in Bx - heavy fog still about - vis only about 200 - 300m. It feels much colder when it's foggy and there "aint no sunshine" (courtesy of Bill Withers for SB)

It was a funny night up here ha ha, I guess in Bathurst the fog would have set in only towards the morning when mine vanished.
Up here started clear frosty but then a fog set in near midnight, lasted much of the night until just before sunrise when it just sunk into the valleys below leaving a clear dawn and sunrise. Little bit of frozen dew but not really a proper frost this time.

We had frost AND fog - finally have a blue hole above even though horizontal vis is still only hundreds of metres. It will obviously burn off quickly now. About 4 or 5 degrees here atm.

Also frost and fog in Armidale which gave us a slighter milder night than the last couple.
City -2.0C
Airport -2.7C
Salisbury Plains -1.3C
Glen Innes airport -2.8C

Sydney is starting to look like Hong Kong with the hazard reduction burning. A very distinct smell of bushfire smoke in the CBD this afternoon.

-3 again this morning - already we have passed our avge no of below zero nights - avge is 8 nights we have already had 10 nights below zero.

It seems that the lowest avge min for all of May is -0.8 - we are at about -0.5 so far, so if the clear skies keep up we might give it a shake. A few cloudy nights next week though might scuttle that.

And to escape the cold of Bx I'm heading to Canberra for the weekend. smile

Only +1.1 up here DaveM, but grass was near -5 and night was clear so frost was thick and white on everything despite min being above zero. Frosts will certainly not let up for a few more days yet until we get some effects from the approaching change in weather well into next week.
