You guys white balance is a little off track. The moon is still sparky white. Here is mine. 50mm macro lenses, ISO100, f/5.6, 1/650s, EV0

you can make your white balance warmer to give the moon that more reddish glow, can do the same with sunrise and sunsets too, a blance around 7K will make a setting sun much more glowing.

I am trying to understand why you want warmer balance of the moon? There is a massive difference in colour of the moon from your eyes. This what I took is exactly same colour and perspective of my visual.

what colour is the moon when it rises? its more reddish as its seen through the haze, dust, smoke on the horizon. Im just telling you that if you wanted to fiddle with your white balances to make the moon appear more reddish like its just rising near the horizon you can. it was only an explaination.

Hi Mick10.
Yes you can use that way only at the moon rise or set, and plus if there any orange or reddish tinge from the eclipse you can use the changes in WB. I have my WB on auto. This is why my picture is sparkly clear and true colour. What I have learnt from my photography course that I see the white balance can be artificial to the colour of your eye sight (the seen of the unseen colours).
Trying to put together those words here haha.

Shooting the moon is the same as shooting in full sun of day light, the moon is reflecting full sun and should be treated as such with white balance (sunny). I've told you not to use auto white balance Mathew, learn how to use your camera in manual mode and this includes white balance as well as aperture and exposure. The moon in eclipse produces different colours, this shot I took back in 2007.

If it is one thing that I have learnt from my photography courses, one in T'ville and one now in uni is that you don't trust the camera to get it right.... White balance really needs to be checked as the camera will try and make most tones 18%grey (ever tried taking a picture of a black dog? much easier with a point and click). but if you shoot in RAW your white balance doesn't really matter man am I missing townsville....I deserve a day that is above 14C
