Yeah aussielunix, and even when we left our high hill (near 1080M) it quickly turned to sleet as we dropped to about 1040M. I also think we were right under a good spot of instability at the time. This spot near Whitley Park almost always catches the best snow, it tends to get lifted just before the park too, which can help a bit.

Yeah, its cheating a bit filming the top of those radiatas as they are around 80ft high! Takes the altitude to more like 1100M+, the contrast of the trees shows up the snow better too.

The brief 2.2 at Mt Boyce at 10:00am looks to be equal to the June record that was set June 14th 1999.
Is this correct ?

I am surprised the temp is staying so low in Blackheath. I thought 5C was realistic for midday but not under 2C at 12:30pm.

I do think the BoM need to work on their forecasts for the tablelands. It seems they usually get the minimums wrong and also over estimate the max temps in situations like this.

At Jenolan Caves. Still settled snow around on the way in. Light rain here. Grabbing a coffee and heading up to Trickett.

In downtown Lithgow it is 1.7 degrees. It is about as cold as gets in June in the middle of the day.

what are the chances of some of that moisture that is moving up from the south bringing more snow to the CT later this afternoon?
we have had some sleet showers on and off but no snow to speak of.

It's a white winter wonderland on top of Mt Bindo (1360mt asl).
I'm glad I made the trip up, it's my first snow chasing trip after watching the forum for a couple of years.

With temps they way they are and the band of moisture not far off, one would have to expect a good bit of snow before the milder tasman air invades. Hope it dumps for you guys!

I was going to head up there this morning but I had a fuse burn out in my switch board last night so I had to do a bit of electricial work.
I hope the temps keep down for you guys so you might get some good snow.

I'm having a lot of trouble atm with the WZ site freezing up on me.
Is anyone else having these problems.

Dirk & Harmony - thanks for the updates. If it's cool enough, that heavy precip coming over may give eastern parts of the OP some quite ok falls of snow.

The heavier rain from the SE seems to be developing now, some heavy snow showers starting to hit up here. But can it last before the warm air moves in or can there be another cooling before that?.

I have my doubts PD about it staying cold enough over my way. Its getting closer to 3C now, even though there has been rain showers for about twenty minutes.

Might be still okay above 1250M out on the OP and maybe for you too, as those heavier showers move in.

Showers have reached here too but it's just a little too warm.
Going for my afternoon walk.

Fascinating aslaws, we might just have enough altitude in Blackheath to get some heavy sleet.

This event is reminiscent for me of some of the 2007 ECLs and the typical scene then was that the cold air at the surface cleared out fairly promptly when the westerly at 850hPa was replaced with the [warmer] southerly. This is imminent in the central ranges and the effects at the surface may be observed at places like Goulburn and Moss Vale, where spikes in temperature and dew point (and winds - to 42 knots at the former) have accompanied the change.

Moss Vale jumped 1.9c from 1.30pm to 2.00pm - thats the warming - reckon we will start warming in the next hour - so much for my 24hr max of only 3.8C
