The vis Satelite is looking beautiful atm with the cold pool appearing in far western NSW and heading for the Northern NSW and SE QLD area - the speckled cold air is quite obvious!

Flipping heck it was cold today. The temperature managed to briefly get to 19C here, but the westerly wind had a real cold feel about it.
The wind has dropped now and with low humidity it is going to be rather chilly tonight. Electric blanket at the ready!

It looks like we may have another big rain event later this week into the new week, with the possibility of an east coast low, bit far out to forecast this but its worth a mentioning smile

Anyone else finding the new higher resolution 50km PME charts a little soft/blurred to read or do I need glasses lol. Especially the location names.

I noticed this cloud just north of the airport this morning. It was a lot smaller though and continued to expand as it headed north. Cool.

earlier on when I saw the cloud it had a definite phallic shape. I hope this expression is deemed less vulgar than my prior comment. Just stating the facts. Since it began near the airport is it possible that a small plane could cause this? I wish I had a photo to explain in more detail how it began.

My understanding is that this appeared just after a plane took off from Coolangatta airport, and that the trajectory of the plane matched the trajectory of the straight line that intercepts the u-shape. I have no idea whether this was actually caused by the plane, but depending on the height of the cloud cover, I guess it is possible?

It's very likely that both the arc & the straight line were contrails (billions of tiny ice crystals left by high flying airliners). Below is the air traffic in the area around that time (10:19am). There were a few aircraft like that Sydney-Brisbane Qantas flight (with QFA512 in the info tag next to it just NE of Coolangatta) that were asked to enter a pre-established holding pattern at around 26,000 feet with right hand turns just off Coolangatta to allow other traffic ahead of them to land at Brisbane. The cirrocumulus clouds were at about the same height this morning over SE QLD so one of those aircraft in the holding pattern probably left behind that curved contrail.

There were also other aircraft tracking via Coolangatta ina direct line to Brisbane without having to enter a holding pattern so one of them probably left behind the straight contrail you can see in the photos that intersects the curved one.

EDIT: contrails only form at high altitudes (typically around 20,000 to 50,000 feet where the air's cold enough to condense the moisture in the exhaust to ice crystals).
