thanks BB, if someone else had got it it would have been made a much bigger deal of. quite a milestone imo, at the risk of trashing my hard earned reputation and sounding warm and fuzzy.....congratulations to everyone who has contributed to helping achieve such a record breaking goal.
interesting area of convection starting early in the bight associated with a sharp upper cutoff coldpool and associated upper trough and high vmax progged to turn into an upper low later on today. moving north over land then swinging around to the east there will be plenty of low level moisture to feed it after it leaves the moist environs of the ocean. i wouldnt be surprised to see this develop into a very lightning active low based HP multicell over the far west and central s.a. later today and this evening. certainly an interesting one to watch.

I'm don't have the time to start a breaking weather thread this arvo but if anyone else does, there's enough precipitation west of Ceduna already ... Whether it showers and storms or not this long weekend, it's going to be beautiful living weather .

not a butt ugly chance in hell of that happening RS, it's going north into central s.a. and thats where it will dissipate and die. keep yer eye out for developments mid to late next week for the s.e. when a second, upper coldpool comes up behind this one, less intense but hopefully will combine with a retrogrdaing surface trough to kick things in the guts for eastern s.a. i'm going back up to renmark tomorrow and coming home tuesday but with bugger all to do and all day to do it in that could well be delayed a coupla days if developments up there appear to be more full on than here.

505pm - the sight of cells with lightning over the west coast was too much for me - I've started a breaking weather thread here

cells have started to organise the last coupla hours on the eastern side of the the upper circulation which has penetrated down to almost the surface and shows up well on the infared sat. also hanging a bit lower than progged and looks to be going across eastern and northern ep and working se. the moisture laden surface southeasterly is running head on into the cells driven by the nw 700 steering winds off the ne quadrant of the low, pity the vmax is on the back edge of the upper low or there would be good potential for supercell, there still is so watch out for anything with heavy cores going in any direction other than the steering flow according to the position of the upper low. models still have the s.e. best chance for mid to late next week, looks to be getting cleared out by a front in the early hours of saturday morning but thats ±18hrs at this stage if it happens at all.

Off topic but great to see can watch the storms tracking over tornado alley. Maybe old news. http://67.225.179.1/full-screen-chaser-video.php Part of the Tornadoes video.net site Using imap can also view Australia. http://imapweather.com/

I had a look at the imap site, it definately seems interesting but it's incredibly slow, at least for me anyway.
If only STC Hamish was in WA not QLD. Jeez, we saw what a category one cyclone could do for us a couple of weeks ago, imagine what a category five could bring us!!
