Kent Town max today 16.0, and gloom all day here at Payneham. Better get used to it I suppose although once the high pressure belt moves further north we may be spared the gloom.

Commented PeteM "Unstable, I try not to go near that tree during a storm - i'm normally out the front with a camera and tripod in the middle of the street! (not sure which is worse)..." lol - just keep an eye out for cars! I think I'd prefer the street personally.

A few weeks ago when I was in the back yard watching a storm a cg came down only a few hundred metres away max. There was a loud bang like a huge firecracker going off and then a rumble. I don't recall hearing that isolated bang before the rumble before with a close cg. To be honest I wondered for a short time what I was doing out there and why I wasn't hiding under the bedclothes eek

Seems like this weather is as exciting as watching paint dry as theres nothing thread worthy happening whereas at this time last year we were all talking about big events happening including the massive windstorm of June 2011

"Update: now minus" - yes looks like the coldest night this year for many places in SA - a few frosts around eg in the Riverland, Clare, Nuri, Murray Bridge, and doubtless Nazland.
Think I may migrate to Neptune Island for the winter - last nights min 14.4 smile

I notice the BoM forecaast for Adelaide on Saturday includes "Scattered showers. The chance of thunderstorms until mid afternoon."

"Unstable - any chance you were there?" - was asleep at the time smile but sounds interesting though and a worthy venture for those that went.
Isolated significant showers crossing Fleurieu Peninsula at present - might be about as exciting as it gets for the next few days. The weather itself is boring but the tension is rising as we await an opening rain and the days are going by. I imagine there's quite a lot of grain sown now and some will come up including Farm Weather's and some is dry sown including Rove's and needs some rain to germinate.
I see that the next chance for significant rain according to gfs is this coming Thursday.

I for one, was happy to go. It was an interesting night, even if I got there a little late. My son (infant) made it a little difficult to concentrate on the talk but i got the general gist of things. It'd be nice to sit in front of 6 computer screens and have all that infromation at your fingertips, just like the senior forecastor. smile

Back to the real weather, boring as bat &$@t, but next wednesday / thursday should clear out the cobwebs.

I like the page Matt smile

Looks like a weak front and wind change moving through the central districts and about to "hit" the gaa, with isolated showers along it.

520 - precipitation - a significant "dense-dropd" shower - I'm probably misquoting a TS word there - crossing the gaa with some yellow and orange - be about 2 mm's worth I reckon - one of a group of several crossing the central districts. Still going at 534 am - guestimate now 3 mm smile

I see that gfs is continuing to predict significant to substantial precipitation for southern-eastern SA during the period wednesday to saturday with both a substantial cold pool and an upper low. I'm more confident of their predictions this time as they aren't reliant on the development of one of their daydream cutoff lows. Fingers and toes crossed for some useful rain this time.

Sounds bracing Naz - any colder and the river there will freeze over - you'll be able to walk across it poke
For the record, the latest BoM rainfall prediction for the four days till Thursday midnight is
"Cumulative rainfall totals from Monday until midnight Thursday are expected to be 15 to 30 mm over southern coastal areas, the Mt Lofty Ranges and southern Eyre Peninsula, 5 to 15 mm over the remainder of the southern agricultural area and up to 5 mm over remaining agricultural areas and the southern pastorals."
