Wow, just had a reasonably noticable tremor here!!

Lasted about 10 seconds, thought it was the sudden arrival of a wind gust before the chair had 2 brief vertical up/down movement sessions! No noise other than the windows rattling.

Very similar reports from my family at Maffra so it must have been fairly strong somewhere in SE Vic!!???

Before it hit (the rumble), I was moved from side to side in my computer chair. Then the rumble occured. Whole thing seemed to last for about 20 seconds.

Magnitude 5.2! Could be some minor structural damage to a few homes (more likely older homes) in the Moe area.

Bugger! Got a crack (seperation between bricks) on a back wall. Window frame moved a little away from bricks (under crack) too. Measures about 1cm (gap). Gap between window frame and brick is 2cm ( frown ) . Looks like my brother (engineer) will be invited over to inspect it....

Well it must have been a doozy. If it was that widely felt. Benalla to Mathra to Wantirna
At first I thought it was the dog under the house (she sleeps pretty much under our bed and digs a hole and scratches) I thought it was her, but the bed and the house were swaying. It took a bit to register that the dog cannot not make the house rock. Our washing machine makes the windows rattle everytime it spins so the windows rattling din't register as I am so use to it. Then it dawned on me it was a tremor, is really quiet an eerie experience.

I was surfing the net and had my headphones on... I only barely noticed it (felt and heard)... initially I thought it was a low-flying aircraft but then the next thing I know my family tells me it was an earthquake and my Facebook news feed is going insane with status updates smile

The swaying from side to side was unnerving. I thought in a split second that my right inner ear (balance) was playing up.
Will be interesting to see if we get an after shock/tremor.

Definitely felt the earthquake up here on the 72nd floor of the Eureka Tower. Was spooky, lasted about 10 seconds at a guess. I've heard that earthquakes (small ones) are not unheard of in Melbourne, well compared to Sydney anyway.

Well my daughter was just rolling (driving) in the driveway when it hit. I would have had some serious words with her if she'd come in at 100kms p/h though shocked Anyway, she said she felt the rocking as she parked under the carport.

Odd, I actually heard the windows rattling much earlier at around 1pm, but didn't feel the 8:55pm one??

Was there anything reported earlier on? The neighbours dog started barking and my windows rattled for a good 2 seconds.

Petros thinking it was probably longer then 10 seconds here, Even when it registered and I got up I could still feel a bit of movement under my feet as I walked to the loungeroom after the worst of it. I know there was defiantely rocking/shaking but I think I felt a bit of a up down sensation before the rocking, but it all happened so unexpectedly so I could be mistaken certainly it was a weird feeling which got my attention.

We felt nothing here in Hoppers Crossing (Damn it), but I'm originally from gippsland and all my family are still there. My mum is approx 25km from the epicenter and called me in tears. Apparently the noise came first, then the floor seemed to be rolling as the ceiling fan was swinging. She could hear the mortar in the bricks cracking too. Terrifying for the old girl as she lives alone. We're used to tremors there, but not like that.

I'm curious as to why we didn't feel it here. No one I've spoken to in the area did. How can this be when Geelong felt it? Any theories? Is it all the rock we're sitting on here?

Completely depends on the type of land underneath. The effect would be less, for example, if you had large amounts of soil, compared to if you were on top of say, rock.

It looks like the event actually started at 10:53am, that would explain why I felt something earlier today. Cool stuff!

Just heard from a friend that the quake took out power to 2 TV transmitters (and some radio transmitters too I believe) at Shepparton and Mt Baranduda (Services Albury/Wodonga) shortly after.

I do actually recall losing TV signal for a few seconds, but didn't feel anything at all.

I was in bed watching TV and I felt the bed shake for at least 10 seconds or more I thought old age had finally caught up with me and was having some kind of tremors. I am so pleased to know it wasn't me.
