I have a long glass pendulum set up in a windless spot (attached to to a solid part of the house structure - inside), with a backing piece of paper with a vertical line drawn up it. The pendulum has been moving in fits and starts since last nights quake.
Just checked it and it is still subtly swaying (up to 5mm, to left and/or right) every 20 seconds or so.
One of my dogs is still looking a bit jittery.

I heard that 3 of Loy Yang A power station Units tripped, also the single Yallourn W unit operating (the rest are out due to coal starvation from the Morwell River breach into the open cut mine). Also heard that the electrical system frequency dipped to 49.2 Hz across the Aust E seaboard as a consequence.

If you told me that the Latrobe Valley was going to get a 5.3 mag quake, I would have bet my house that all the LV generators would have tripped - causing system black in Victoria.

Got any pics of this setup? Would love to build something similar. Was going to try build something a bit more technical that would sound an alarm, just so I didn't happen to miss any aftershocks.

By the looks of that video RD posted, it was pretty intense. No way you could have missed that!

Bear with me...I'll put a pic up of this home made (very simple) pendulum system late today (or earlier if I get a chance).
It has been interesting to watch. A few times it has moved in a circular fashion as well. Felt another mild tremour yesterday.
The funniest part is the 'vision' us all sitting staring at it for half an hour in silence - we are a strange family grin

Ok Things - got back from the dentist now crazy
Here's the pic of the pendulum.
Pendulum suspended (blue glass ball at top of pic) on a fine thread - 2 feet long.

The pendulum began to sway again when I was taking the pic.
