Cheers Arnold, as traumatic as it was to watch it unfold mere meters away i think the hardest thing im coming to terms with is that no one was killed let alone seriously injured.., there were a [censored] load of luck cards drawn that day!

i attended a plane crash in Brandon (1 hour) south of Townsville this afternoon. Pilot had left scene by the time we got there, but the owner of the 2seater Jabiru was still there. Seems, the pilot may have come in to hard on landing, bounced and then flipped the aircraft onto its roof.
pilot was only one on board and had not injuries.

Hey gang! smile Apart from the turbulence I absolutely love flying, thought I'd take this chance to share my flight experiences (helicopter included) smile just wish I knew the flight numbers and airlines poke

1. October/November 1988... flew to the USA with my parents Melbourne to Los Angeles and back (connecting at Sydney both ways I think), travelling to places such as San Francisco, Phoenix, Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, Denver, and Minneapolis.

2. March 2005... (my first flight since 1988), a week with my family down in Tasmania, flying Melbourne-Hobart, then touring the southeast (Hobart, New Norfolk, Richmond, and Port Arthur) and East Coast (Freycinet National Park, Bicheno, Scamander, St. Helens, St. Marys, and Fingal) before flying Launceston-Melbourne smile

3. January 2006... my family and I took a joy flight over the NSW South Coast (Eden, Pambula, Merimbula, Tura Beach, Tathra, Bega, and Bermagui)... I love watching the planes flying into and out of Merimbula Airport each summer! grin

4. September/October 2006... my family and I spent approx. 10 days on New Zealand's beautiful South Island, flying return Melbourne-Christchurch, touring the Southern Alps, West Coast, Franz Josef and Fox Glaciers, Queenstown, Te Anau (including a scenic flight over Doubtful Sound... the plane dropped suddenly as it passed over a mountain and I became scared of turbulence since then frown ), Milford Sound, Invercargil, Dunedin, Timaru, and Lake Tekapo.

5. September/October 2007... a 10-day family holiday in Queensland (Gold Coast and Whitsunday Islands), flying Melbourne-Coolangatta, then later Brisbane-Hamilton Island, and finally Hamilton Island-Brisbane-Melbourne. My mum and I did 2 helicopter flights together, once over the Gold Coast from Dreamworld, and again over the Great Barrier Reef while in the Whitsundays (albeit in cloudy weather). We stayed at Broadbeach and on Daydream Island btw.

6. July 2010... a 6-day trip with the family to Sydney and the Blue Mountains, staying in Manly. I still remember my first glimpse of the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge as we were flying into Kingsford-Smith Airport (the view was stunning in the winter sunshine), as well as my view over Corryong (where I go for most of my holidays), the Snowy Mountains, and Canberra (including Parliament House) as we flew up from Melbourne smile the return trip was in turbulent, stormy weather at night frown

7. July 2011... a 2-week family holiday to tropical Fiji (Nadi, Sigatoka, Coral Coast, Pacific Harbour, and Suva) to catch up with my girlfriend (now fiancee) and meet her family, the flight from Melbourne Airport was delayed by approximately 45 minutes and the return trip from Nadi by about 1-2 hours poke much of the flight northeast to Fiji from Melbourne was in rather cloudy weather so I didn't see much before entering the Tasman Sea near Sydney, except perhaps the northern suburbs of Canberra.

8. January/February 2012... my second trip to Sydney and the Blue Mountains, this time with my girlfriend/fiancee for approx. 8 days, mainly to meet up with some of her relatives and friends who live there. On the flight up from Melbourne I was able to photograph my first cumulonimbus thunderstorm cloud from the air... grin

In case anyone's interested, the storm was probably occurring somewhere in the Cowra/Forbes/Parkes/Orange/Bathurst region of NSW at approx. 4:20PM (January 27th) http://www.theweatherchaser.com/radar-loop/IDR711-sydney-terrey-hills/2012-01-27-00/2012-01-27-23 (frame 54 btw) there may have been other storms around btw, given the amount of convection in the area at the time but I can only confirm at least 1 storm cell from my pics during the flight, may have been a severe thunderstorm because there was a bit of an overshoot in the anvil.

The Sydney-Melbourne flight was in full daylight and almost no turbulence (compared to 2010) smile

9. February 2012... my third helicopter flight, this time with my girlfriend/fiancee over the Twelve Apostles while touring the Great Ocean Road and Grampians in Western Victoria for three days, overnighting at Warrnambool and Halls Gap smile

My next flight is set for June (next month) to Fiji for approx. 3 weeks... later this year I may end up flying to Sydney and perhaps Brisbane, who knows smile

I'll be sharing my aviation photos (including weather) on Flickr and my future website soon (cheers, vinaka) smile

Birmingham airport used to have a great viewing gallery with clear views of the runway. Unfortunately, they upgraded the terminal which obscured part of the view and a few years later the viewing gallery closed altogether.

My wife and i flew to Temora Natfly 2012 on Easter Saturday in Jabiru 230, listen for my callsign Jab 7755. All audio into Temora is recorded. A rather busy day.

I'm flying 4-6 times a month at the moment for work. Haven't had any real rough flights yet, I'm not a fan of turbulence.

Haha sick poke

Flew sydney to Townsville direct yesterday. Went over tamworth, Roma, emerald and up over the burdekin dam and finally into Townsville. Seat belt light had to be turned on twice, once near the qld border for turbulence, and once again near emerald before we started descending near clermont. Got just a little bumpy but nothing to bad.

been having alot of air movement around townsville this morning, excersise high sierra is about to finish off with williamstown based fa18's completing pilot training up on townsville's high range training area.
while exercise tallisman sabre is about to commence at shoalwater bay and off the eastcoast.

i didnt have my camera with me today, but did have the pleasure of watching a RAAF airbus a340 refueling aircraft land,

while at home, saw a wedgetail take off,

and i also heard a really loud one taking off, but it was at dusk and was really dark and drizzly, couldnt tell what model aircraft it was,
had 4 engines with the wing tips. been annoying me all evening, anyone help?

it was grey lizzie, had to be raaf, though i couldnt see any markings as it was flying through low cloud and drizzle.
we dont have an international flights here anymore, unless they are defence charters.
had the high pitched drone of an airbus, but again we dont get many that big here.

and yeah sorry, Williamtown!! i keep adding that "s" in!! so frustrating lol.
