Continuous light to occasionally moderate rain here at Millthorpe since about 8.30pm which hasn't been picked up by any radar. With temp around 2.5, there's no sleet much less snow. Fairly windy, say 20km/h gusting 30. Satpix show a blob of cloud over us at present, though it doesn't seem to have altered things much. They also show general movement of cloud is more ENE than NE. Young AP (380m) has had 8.0mm since 9pm with 6.6 falling in the hour to 10.30pm. With the temp there on 6.0C, I'd think there would be some snow falling or soon to fall on the OP and around Oberon, and possibly as far north as PD's place.

Another very disappointing snowfall, yet again zero was not even reached and what little is left is wet slush and will be gone in a few hours.

Fun to see snow in Blackheath, even though this event was far from classic. Sorry I missed catching up with Andrew M, Anewts, Matt S. and other chasers. Sorry Matt, not a member of Facebook. Still plan to be out there this winter. I was thinking of heading out today if it was a touch colder and snowier for photo ops but Twitter reports this morning from Gingkin and Oberon don't sound encouraging...there is still snow on the ground though, for those keen to head out. Make sure you go above 1200M.

Some spitty precip here (rain) and still only 2C but much more stable now with the cold uppers moving away.

I take it there's not much to report on the OP this morning.

I guess the upshot is that there was a bit of action with the unstable air yesterday but when you've got unimpressive 850hPa temps at heights you'd expect with SLPs approaching 1020hPa it's simply not going to be cold enough.

I will be heading out to Shooters for a look around.
Just waiting for my wife to wake up.
I will be on UHF channel 10.

Hi Andrew,
Not much happening here this morning, a light mix of snow and sleet, temp 1c, winds WSW at 14klms. The snow/rain/sleet overnight has reduced the snow lying on the ground to patches.
Might be some snowing up high on Shooters Hill.

Sadly my old mobile phone does not have any great internet capability, can access it but not great. I need to get a couple of mobile phone numbers so I can report to people with immediate access to the net.

Headed to Jenolan yesterday, went over Trickett about 11.15 it was 1 degree but only minor precip - however there was light flakeage in it.

Down around the caves for several hours - had a number of small hail falls whilst there.

Headed back up the hill around 3 ish but no precip at Trickett - temp 0 to 1.

Stopped a few km north as we spotted a big line of precip coming in - took forever to get to us but it was only reaally light drizzle size precip. Got sick of that heade to Shooters - Got to Shooters about 4pm As described by others there was a nice thin cover. Plenty of photos already up so I won't put any more on.

Spoke to a couple from Blackheath (Grey Territory) who said they followed the zone but didn't post.

Other vehicles there at the time were (as far as I remember)

Green Camry with L plated
Silver Forester (say 05 model or so)
Commodore wagon (dark colour)
We were in my brothers black Territory
There were a couple of other vehicles there but my memory is not reliable enough on them.

Sounds like we either just missed or may have been there with someone else eg Harmony, Matty, maybe SSC

We headed off around 4.30 to Oberon, by that time we were chasing heavy snow showers all the way. Snowing in Oberon too then.

All in all a great day.

Thanks for the reports everyone, snow at shooters looks a bit wet, not sure if anyone took a temperature reading when there?.

And a special thanks to Linski for posting the detailed temperature observations. That is very informative to gain better knowledge of the airmass profile across the CT's, an AWS in that area would be very useful.

Sadly it was still not the system to dent the snow drought, I had higher hopes for last night.

Me and David G went for a drive yesterday arvo too. had some quite heavy snow at shooters for a while which was really nice. looked the same as the pics others have posted.
headed out to Mt Werrong way and was pretty good there, its always nice to see some settled snow in non alpine bushland.

on the way back to road was closed from Edith to Jenolan caves and was a decent 2-3 at some spots settled on the road around Mt Trickett for a few kms which was nice as usually we don't go back that way to avoid the horrible 15km slow windy road.

At shooters our car read 1C but harmony's husband was saying his proper thermometer was reading about 0.7 i think. not a lot was settling on the roads as i think it was just a little bit too warm.

I'm glad that you guys got to see some snow up high. This was a bit of a let down for me. I haven't seen settled snow here in lithgow since may 2000.

I'm begining to think that my 6 year old son may never see snow unless we go to a higher altitude next time a good front is due.

Times have changed, there is no doubt about it. I'm still hoping that it may happen before this year is over but i'm not holding my breath.

Hi guys, you might have spoken to my hubby Dave at the tower if you were the guys talking to him about Eastern Creek & heading out to Mt Werong area? So yeah he was with me, Harmony & my daughter & grandson running around throwing snowballs. We were with a light brown Nissan Patrol.

The green camry with "L" plates was Jimmy from the forum (Hale if that's how he spells his nic on here). Silver Subaru AWD i think it was anewts & matt. White Hilux dual cab was Andrew Miskelly. Koops from here if that's how you spell it was in a white commodore. We saw a black 4wd with a couple with kids up there late arvo. From memory that's it but yeah we had our UHF on channel 10 & heard someone mention snowchasers around 4.30 - 5 & i responded that we were up at Shooters but then heard nothing else.

I'm sure we will all meet up again up there...well hopefully there will be many more chases in the future.

Came back from Jenolan Caves around 5pm yesterday (northbound, not through Edith) and it was not long before the snow started settling over the road through to Hampton. Elevation up to 1250m and plenty of snow play to be had for the littlies. Headed to Lithgow for dinner and it didn't have the feel for snow in town did it? Got some pics, will post later.

Sure was warm inside the caves (relatively speaking)

ahh k cool he was nice

i actually didnt end up going to shooters because theres no mobile connection there and I didnt want be in a position where I was isolated incase of a breakdown (A bit of a shame since shooters had better snow cover). I think I also missed the best of the snow since I left oberon around 4 to make the trip to Hartley in daylight.

It was pretty fun though driving in snowfall from oberon to trickett smile
I probs wont go again this winter as Sydney to oberon takes a while.
